NRL Thursday: Eels v Wests Tigers, predictions & odds, round 11, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our preview of Parramatta Eels v Wests Tigers at Bankwest Stadium on Thursday, July 23, to kick off NRL round 11.

The Eels are in second place on the table with an 8-2 record, while the Tigers are in seventh at 5-5.

Parramatta suffered only their second loss of the season last Saturday night at Lottoland when they were jumped early by Manly, while their other loss came against defending premiers the Sydney Roosters.

Wests Tigers smashed the Broncos 48-0 last Friday night, but they need a big scalp to lend credibility to their finals credentials.

The Tigers’ list of victims this season includes St George Illawarra, Cronulla, North Queensland, Canterbury Bankstown and Brisbane Broncos, all of whom sit outside the top eight. Their five losses have been to Newcastle, Gold Coast, Canberra, Penrith and South Sydney, all of whom sit inside the top eight bar the Titans.

That makes it obvious the Tigers are not quite there yet in terms of contending, though their wonderful attack has at times stamped them as one of the teams on the rise.

The difference between these two teams so far this season has been that the Eels’ defence is the best in the comp by statistics, while the Tigers ranks in the middle of the pack.

The Tigers should have winger Robert Jennings (hamstring)  and lock Alex Twal (knee) available again after injury, while the Eels could get an enormous boost with the likes of halfback Mitch Moses (calf), Ryan Matterson (thumb) and Blake Ferguson (knee) almost ready to go.

Powerful Eels winger Maika Sivo (knee) and tough lock Nathan Brown (corked hip) are expected to be fit to play after being hurt against the Sea Eagles.

Eels v Wests Tigers free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Eels v Wests Tigers clash.

Wests Tigers +7.5 points/match total over 38.5 points

While their recent record against the Eels is not great, the Tigers hit this match running and I can’t help but feel the Eels are a little beaten-up after their match against Manly. Parramatta dig deep in the second half to almost pinch that match, but that effort may tell on the short back-up. Both teams can really attack with flair, and the early weather forecast is clear.

David Nofoaluma to score a try

We tipped the flying Wests winger to score a try against the Broncos last round and he did the business for us in under 10 minutes! Nofoaluma is just in unstoppable form and he also scored a double the last time these two teams met. We will stick with him while he’s flying.

Eels v Wests Tigers prediction

These teams met twice in the 2019 NRL season with two resounding wins for the Eels: 51-6 at Bankwest Stadium and 30-18 in the return bout at the same ground, when Brad Takairangi scored a hat-trick of tries for Parramatta. We think this will be an fast-moving, end-to-end contest and the Tigers love that style of football. They need to make a statement in this game and we think they will. West Tigers by four points.
