NRL Thursday: Roosters v Storm betting tips, prediction & odds, round 14, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Sydney Roosters v Melbourne Storm betting tips, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday, August 13.

These powerhouse teams played one of the great matches earlier this year in round eight at Suncorp Stadium when the Storm triumphed 27-25 in golden point extra time after scoring two late tries.

Bookmakers have made the two-time defending premiers Roosters short-priced favourites to win the return bout at the SCG, largely because Melbourne are missing a couple of superstars in hooker Cameron Smith (shoulder) and five-eighth Cameron Munster (knee).

Nobody will be be surprised if these two teams square off again in the grand final later this year, so there is plenty on the line in this clash.

Both teams are in great form, with the Storm winning their past seven matches, most of them with ease.

Meanwhile, the Roosters have won their past three matches against the NZ Warriors, Gold Coast Titans and St George Illawarra Dragons last Thursday 24-16. But they have been strengthened by the return of veteran centre Josh Morris from a calf injury.

Melbourne Storm welcome back ace fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen and veteran lock Dale Finucane , while Ryley Jacks fills the big shoes of Munster at five-eighth.

Read on for our Roosters v Storm tips and winner prediction for their NRL clash at the SCG on Thursday, August 13.

Roosters v Storm free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Sydney Roosters v Melvourne Storm betting tips.

Storm to win/match total over 38.5 points

This double is paying around $5.60 with leading bookmaker Unibet. Yes, it will hurt to play without Smith and Munster, but the Storm have a wonderful system and in Brandon Smith they have a great back-up hooker. They have been far more impressive in recent weeks than the Roosters to our eye, so we are happy to take the value available about the underdogs.

Ryan Papenhuyzen to score a try

The odds on the Storm fullback scoring a try at any time during are around $2.75. Papenhuyzen has been a revelation this season and we expect him to take on even more responsibility in the absence of the big guns. He is a clever, gutsy player with tremendous footwork and a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

Sydney Roosters v Melbourne Storm prediction

We think the bookmakers have marked the Storm a little too harshly here and been a little carried away with how well the Roosters are travelling. It should not be forgotten that the defending premiers still have Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Boyd Cordner, Angus Crichton and Brett Morris  out injured along with long-term casualties such as Victor Radley. They also have a new halfback running the show in Lachlan Lam. The Storm are a resilient team and they look the value bet in the match. Our Roosters v Storm prediction: Storm by 6 points.
