Playtech has become the latest major supplier to enter Alberta’s newly regulated online gambling market, launching its casino and live dealer portfolio with a broad network of licensed operators as the province opens commercial iGaming.

The move further strengthens Playtech’s position in North America, where the company has continued expanding its regulated market presence following its launch in Ontario in 2022.

Players in Alberta will now have access to Playtech’s portfolio of online casino titles, including Adventures Beyond Wonderland, Mega Fire Blaze Roulette and Oink Oink Oink, with the iGaming developer aiming to build on the strong performance of those games across other regulated North American jurisdictions.

Playtech’s arrival comes just days after fellow developer Play’n GO also launched its content with more than 10 licensed operators in Alberta, highlighting the race among leading providers to establish an early foothold in Canada’s newest regulated iGaming market.

Chief Operating Officer Shimon Akad said entering Alberta on the first day of regulation represented another important milestone in Playtech’s North American growth strategy.

“Entering Alberta’s regulated iGaming market on its first day is a significant milestone for Playtech’s North American expansion strategy,” he said.

“We are pleased to be supporting our partners with some of our strongest-performing content and are committed to working closely with them as the market evolves, broadening our offering and helping them deliver engaging player experiences to support their long-term success.”

The launch follows the introduction of Alberta’s regulated online gambling framework under the iGaming Alberta Act, with operators and suppliers licensed under standards overseen by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC).

Playtech Global Head of Government Relations Charmaine Hogan welcomed the province’s regulatory approach, particularly its emphasis on responsible gambling.

“Alberta has set a strong regulatory foundation for its iGaming market, and the establishment of a centralised self-exclusion system is a particularly welcome step in safeguarding players,” she said.

“Well-designed regulation, underpinned by meaningful player protection tools, is what allows regulated markets to thrive and channel players away from the black market.

“We will continue to work constructively with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and industry partners as the market matures.”

Playtech’s Alberta launch builds on its existing Canadian footprint after becoming one of the first suppliers to enter Ontario when that province’s regulated online gaming market opened in April 2022.
