Police make arrests after two illegal casinos discovered in Melbourne
Victoria Police have arrested 29 people and uncovered two illegal casinos in Melbourne as part of an organised crime investigation that also resulted in the seizure of drugs, firearms and approximately A$600,000 in cash.
Detective Inspector Carlie Kohler said the discovery of illegal gambling operations in Carnegie and Box Hill had exposed further suspected criminal activity.
“During the early stages of this investigation, we identified the residential properties in Carnegie and Box Hill were being utilised as illegal casinos,” Kohler said.
“These arrests are a crucial part of our commitment to dismantle organised crime on every level.”

Police discovered the first suspected casino in Carnegie on August 15, finding multiple gambling rooms and 15 people, including two staff members, allegedly participating in unauthorised casino games.
All 15 were interviewed and released, with charges expected to be laid on summons.
A second illegal casino was discovered in Box Hill on October 20, where two alleged operators were arrested.
Police also uncovered handwritten gambling ledgers at another Box Hill property, suggesting extensive illegal betting activity.
The investigation, conducted with assistance from the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission and VIPER Taskforce, resulted in the seizure of casino chips, seven kilograms of methylamphetamine, five kilograms of ketamine and five firearms.
Weapons, including machetes, swords and tasers, were also recovered during searches across Melbourne.
“We are continuing to dismantle drug syndicates as we work to reduce drug related harm within the community,” Kohler said.
“Uncovering these casinos and putting an end to the illegal activities taking place inside them helps get drugs and weapons off the streets.”
The only legal casino venue in Melbourne and the entirety of Victoria is Crown Casino, located on the Yarra River in the CBD.
