West Coast v Collingwood betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL Elimination Final Preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our preview of the AFL elimination final between West Coast and Collingwood at Optus Stadium in Perth on Saturday night.

The losers of this clash are done for the 2020 season, while the winners will move on to play Geelong in the second week of the finals.

The Eagles and Magpies have serious recent history, including their epic 2018 grand final clash won by the Eagles by just five points.

West Coast have won five out of the past six clashes between these teams and when they met earlier this season at Optus Oval, key forward Josh Kennedy had a field day with seven goals as the Eagles romped in by 66 points.

So the Magpies have the odds stacked against them as they have left the south-east Queensland hub to travel to Perth to face the local heroes. They are heavy underdogs in betting, with leading bookmaker PlayUp rating the Eagles as $1.42 against the Magpies at $2.85. The $1.90 handicap line has been set at 13.5 points.

West Coast have regained some big names for this match, including star midfielders Luke Shuey and Jack Redden, crafty forward Jamie Cripps and defensive general Jeremy McGovern. Shuey and McGovern are returning after hamstring injuries.

The Eagles players to make way for that impressive quartet are Josh Rotham, who is injured, and omitted trio Bailey Williams, Luke Foley and Will Schofield.

Collingwood have surprised many at the selection table by including big man Darcy Cameron and vetera Chris Mayne, who has recovered from a broken jaw. Speedy pair Travis Varcoe and Tyler Brown have been dropped, and the Pies have somewhat of a pedestrian look heading into this do-or-die clash.

West Coast v Collingwood tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value West Coast v Collingwood tips for Saturday’s game.

West Coast -12.5 points/match total over 109.5 points

The Eagles dismissed the Magpies with ease when they met earlier in the season and it’s hard to see anything but something similar this time around. The Eagles have had some injury concerns but are at close to full strength and look too strong altogether in this one.

Liam Ryan to kick 3+ goals

The electric Eagles forward has looked in the best form of his career in the second half of the season. The Pies will look to star defender Brayden Maynard to mind him but it’s a big ask, especially if the ball is speeding forward from what should be a dominant midfield.

West Coast v Collingwood prediction 03/9/2020

The Eagles have obviously taken a calculated gamble on several players who are just recovered from injury, while full-forward Josh Kennedy has also been battling an ankle issue. But it’s crunch time for both teams and the Eagles are nearly impossible to beat in the West. Collingwood are a gutsy side but just have not been able to score freely at any time this season, The Magpies need to unearth a surprise goalkicker to give the likes of superstar Jordan De Goey a hand. We can’t see it happening here. The Pies’ normally dominant ruck Brodie Grundy has been down on form and faces a huge task even breaking even with the Eagles’ Nic Naitanui. We think the Eagles will dominant the midfield and the match in this one. Our final West Coast-Collingwood prediction? Eagles by 31 points.
