Adelaide v St Kilda betting tips, predictions and odds update; AFL Rd 7 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Adelaide host St Kilda in a return to Adelaide Oval that can’t come quickly enough for the Crows, who endured a miserable time in the Queensland hub.

The Crows lost all their matches there to Gold Coast, Brisbane, Fremantle and West Coast by an average of almost six goals.

The once-mighty Adelaide, who went into a grand final as red-hot favourites just three years ago, are sitting last on the ladder with no wins from six games and are two games behind the second-bottom team. They can’t get anything going in attack and are averaging just over 40 points per game.

The Saints are 3-3 and their form has varied between big wins against Richmond and the Western Bulldogs and shocking losses to Collingwood and last week against Fremantle, when they really had the game at their mercy early.

For this match the Crows have lost star midfielder Rory Sloane (hand) to injury, but have regained long-kicking winger Paul Seedsman and veteran forward Taylor Walker. Adelaide will be desperate to lift for the 150th game of stalwart Rory Laird.

Meanwhile, the Saints lose the impressive defender Ben Long to suspension for a high bump and have dropped utility Jonathon Marsh. In come veteran ruckman Paddy Ryder and debutant Ryan Byrnes, a speedy midfielder who captained the  Sandringham Dragons and was picked up in the 2019 draft at No.52.

Crows v Saints betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Adelaide v St Kilda tips for Monday’s game.

St Kilda -20.5 points at $2

The Crows may well relish being back on home turf but they have been terrible to date this year and the loss of talismanic midfierlder Rory Sloane is just another kick in the guts for new coach Matthew Nicks. No doubt the Crows will be brave but they had had little fluency with their ball movement and no standouts up front. The Saints’ best has been far better and they should cover this mark comfortably.

Max King to score at least 3 goals

The Saints youngster is an impressive player and is expected to develop into one of the best forwards in the game over the next decade. In this market with Aussie bookie PlayUp, King is at $5 to score three goals or more and we think he will get among the goals in a comfortable win for his team.

Adelaide v St Kilda prediction 20/7/20

The Crows have won their past 10 matches against the Saints and have not lost to them since round 18 in 2011. They have dominated the Saints since then with an average winning margin across those 10 games of 50 points. But this is 2020 and the Crows are now in full rebuilding mode; if they are not they should be. The Saints have shown enticing flashes of what they are capable of this season and they are building a strong list under Brett Ratten. If they are in any way serious threats in 2020, for the finals at least, they should win this game and win it well. Our final prediction: St Kilda to win by 34 points.
