AFL round 15 odds and fixture update

Brisbane v Richmond betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL Qualifying Final preview 2020

Round 15 of the AFL kicks off on Tuesday, September 1, with a double-header, that sparks another footy frenzy of non-stop AFL games.

The first match on Tuesday is Hawthorn v Adelaide in Adelaide, followed by a cracker between West Coast and resurgent Essendon at the Gabba.

Round 15 runs only until Friday, but round 16 starts on Saturday, September 5, and in total we have 23 matches across 14 consecutive days. Take a deep breath and next thing you know it will be finals time.

But first to round 15 and the Hawks are $1.40 in early betting to beat Adelaide ($3), in what may be the Crows’ best chance of winning a match this season. They are sitting at 0-13 and have the Giants, Blues and Tigers to come.

For the latter match in Queensland, West Coast ($1.27) will look to bounce back from their loss to Richmond by beating Essendon ($3.70). The Bombers look a lot more dangerous with star forward Joe Daniher back in the line-up. This match has some claim on being match of the round.

On Wednesday, Richmond have an extra couple of days’ rest as they play Fremantle at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. Bookies have the Tigers as short as $1.13 against the Dockers ($6).

The amount of rest teams have between matches and which players are available is again more important than ever from a punter’s perspective.

On Thursday, we have another double header, with the early match the first of the season in Cairns between the Sydney Swans ($3.20) and Melbourne ($1.35). It’s a must-win match for the Demons and they should be too strong for the undermanned Swans.

The second match is a cracker between GWS Giants and Carlton at Metricon Stadium, with the losers unlikely to have any chance of reaching the finals. The Blues are forced to back up from Sunday, while the Giants have an extra day’s rest but have to fly in from Perth, so that levels their preparations out somewhat.

No so the Friday match of the round to end round 15, when the Brisbane Lions, coming off a bye, face Collingwood at the Gabba in a match with huge repercussions for the finals.

The Lions have not played since Sunday, August 23, given them almost two weeks into this match. Not only did Collingwood play a brutal match against Carlton on Sunday, they also played North Melbourne on Monday, August 24.

It will take a herculean effort for the Magpies to get up for this one, so be ready to pounce when the bookmakers put up their odds for this game. About $1.80 would be well over the odds for the fresh Lions at home, against a Magpies side still decimated by injury.

AFL 2020 premiership betting update

Defending premiers Richmond have finally reached the top of 2020 betting after their impressive win against the West Coast Eagles.

The Tigers were $5 into $4.25 with leading bookie Unibet, while the Eagles were $4.50 out to $5.50 but could probably be forgiven their loss to the Tigers after key forward Josh Kennedy was concussed early in the match.

The other big inward movers near the top of betting were Geelong, who were $6 into $5 after their come-from-behind win against Western Bulldogs.

Brisbane were $6.50 into $6 without playing, though they are in pole position to finish into the top two and also a great chance of playing in a grand final on home turf.

Collingwood were $15 out to $17 despite their fighting win against old enemies Carlton; they were joined at that price by GWS Giants, who scored a comfortable win over Fremantle in the west and loom as dangerous floaters should they make the finals.

Melbourne and St Kilda swapped places in betting after the Demons’ controversial narrow win in Alice Springs, with the Demons now $21 and the Saints $26.

And that’s where the contenders end, according to betting sites, with the Western Bulldogs out to $41 and the Blues $101.

North Melbourne,  Sydney Swans,  Adelaide Crows can’t make the finals and are no longer included in the betting markets.
