AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Round 2 of the 2021 AFL season kicks off on Thursday, March 25, with a blockbuster between two old rivals. Our AFL betting experts have examined the odds in our regular Monday column taking an early look at the matches for the week ahead.

The AFL world will find out just how much Carlton has improved when they take on arch rival Collingwood in round 2 action at the MCG on Thursday night.

The Blues are outsiders at $2.05 in the betting with the Magpies paying $1.80 to notch up their first victory of the season. Both teams suffered losses in the opening round, Carlton being dismissed by the impressive Richmond and Collingwood typically dogged in their loss to the Bulldogs.

The Blues will be boosted by Zac Williams with the GWS recruit serving his one-match suspension, while the Magpies will deeply consider Steele Sidebottom, who suffered a calf injury during the preseason.

On Friday night Geelong ($1.60) will take on the Brisbane Lions ($2.33) with both teams needing a victory, after shock losses to Adelaide and Sydney respectively.

Of the four matches on Saturday, the St Kilda v Melbourne clash promises to be the best, with the Saints ($1.60) fancied to defeat Melbourne ($2.35). Both these teams are 1-0 and can get their season off to a perfect start with a win over another finals contender.

Sydney is expected to account for Adelaide, Port Adelaide is an unbackable favourite against Essendon and Gold Coast are the bookies elect for their clash against North Melbourne.

Hawthorn faces the almost insurmountable task of beating Richmond at the MCG in the early game on Sunday. The Hawks did defeat Essendon in the opening round, but Richmond and Dustin Martin could not have been any more impressive against the Blues.

Western Bulldogs ($1.61) are expected to defeat West Coast ($2.33) in Melbourne, but it will be worth watching selection with the Eagles expected to have several gun midfielders return in the coming weeks.

Fremantle ($1.76) will be hoping to open their account against GWS ($2.08), who were outpointed by a more disciplined Saints team on Sunday.

AFL Premiership odds before Round 2

Geelong has drifted in AFL premiership betting, from $4.50 to $5.50, after a below par showing against Adelaide and likely suspension to Brownlow fancy Patrick Dangerfield.

The Cats were well below their best in the loss to wooden spoon fancy Adelaide, with their midfield dominated by the young Crows and Taylor Walker winding back the clock.

Brisbane has also drifted in flag betting, from $7 to $8.50, following their thrashing at the hands of Sydney at the Gabba. The Lions’ last fortnight has not been kind following the knee injury to Cam Rayner in the practice game and then their flat effort against the Swans, who are being tipped to struggle this year.

Port Adelaide has firmed from $8.50 into $6 and look to be a leading contender, while the Bulldogs win over Collingwood has catapulted them from around $15 into $9 with some bookmakers.

Collingwood ($15 out to $26) and GWS ($17 out to $31) are not finding much love among AFL betting fans.
