Fremantle Dockers v Carlton Blues betting tips, prediction and odds update; AFL Rd 12 preview

Updated Saturday 3:20pm: Welcome to our free Fremantle v Carlton betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their round 12 AFL clash at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

Both teams are sitting on four wins and any late charge at a finals birth probably hinges on winning this game, with the eighth placed team currently on 24 points.

The Blues won the last encounter between the two clubs in round 15 last season, but there is little to read into this given the personnel changes and the current COVID-19 climate other than that it was at Optus Stadium.

Carlton will go into this clash with an extra day’s rest under their belts and a lesson in how to play the ground, after performing admirably in their 22-point loss to West Coast on Sunday.

Fremantle recorded a 16-point win over Hawthorn on Monday night, in a performance that would have been heartening for supporters, with youngsters like Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra producing career-best games.

When the betting opened there was little between Fremantle ($1.80) and Carlton ($2). But all the money has been for the Dockers, who have been backed into $1.60, while the Blues have got the blows out to $2.25. The Carlton v Fremantle line has been adjusted from 2.5 to 6.5

The Dockers have selected Michael Walters for the clash with the injured Travis Colyer the only omission. The Dockers floated the possibility of bringing in Jesse Hogan in a new role in defence, but have resisted the temptation.

The Blues have lost star recruit Jack Martin to a hamstring injury but tall forward Harry McKay will return and youngster Josh Honey will debut. Honey is a powerfully built youngster who has been playing well at reserves level. They have also lost ruckman Marc Pittonet to injury.

Fremantle v Carlton tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value Dockers v Blues tips for Saturday’s game.

Michael Walters to score 2+ goals

Dockers star Michael Walters will be returning from injury and is likely to spend more time forward than before his hamstring injury, with captain Nat Fyfe now available. Walters is paying a tempting $3.20 to kick 2+ goals in the wet, while the $6 for Fyfe to kick 2+ is also not a bad bet. A lot hinges on selection with this one, with Walters still to pass a final fitness test despite training strongly early in the week. Our main man at the Dockers Matt Taberner has been on fire, but we’re happy to stay away this week in the wet.

Will Setterfield to get 20+ touches

Setterfield has been given significantly more responsibility in the Blues midfield this season, and we think he is close to a breakout game. These are two young midfields and the big bodied Setterfield could the player to cash in. He is paying $2.88 to get 20 touches with Unibet.

Fremantle v Carlton prediction 15/8/2020

Fremantle look to have a slight edge over Carlton, particularly now Michael Walters has been passed fit. The Dockers midfield looks to bat a little deeper and their key forwards Taberner and Lobb play well in Perth. We think the Blues are due a letdown and this week could be it. Our final Fremantle v Carlton prediction? Dockers by 13 points.
