Carlton v Port Adelaide betting tips & prediction, AFL Rd 7 preview

Carlton v Port Adelaide betting tips, prediction; AFL rd 7 betting preview

WE’RE not sure if we can smell them coming just yet, but long-suffering Carlton fans finally have something to smile about, with the Blues sitting in eighth spot on the AFL ladder after winning three of their past four games. Welcome to our Carlton v Port Adelaide betting tips, predictions and odds analysis for their round 7 clash from the Gabba on Sunday afternoon.

Blues fans were ecstatic after whipping the Western Bulldogs by 52 points last week and piling on more than 100 points, a rare occurrence for the once mighty Carlton. But Port Adelaide poses an even sterner test, with the Ken Hinkley-coached Power top-of-the-ladder and coming off a convincing 17-point win over GWS.

We think the AFL betting sites have priced this one about right, with the Power the hot favourite at around the $1.43 quote, although they have lost Brad Ebert to suspension and Cam Sutcliffe (hamstring) from the team that defeated the Giants. Mitch Georgiades, Peter Ladhams, Riley Bonner, Sam Mayes, Tom Rockliff and Xavier Duursma have been included in the squad.

Carlton have been priced at $2.76 for the clash, with their stirring victory over the Dogs given even more merit by Patrick Cripps playing a rare quiet game after battling an injury concern. The likes of young forward Harry McKay, who booted three goals, Will Setterfield, Matthew Kennedy and Sam Petrovski-Seaton are leading the new breed of Blues. The Blues have included Callum Moore, Matthew Cottrell, Sam Philp and Zac Fisher in their squad, and are yet to make any omissions.

Blues v Power betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Carlton Blues v Port Power tips for Sunday’s game.

Patrick Cripps 20+ touches / Anytime goal-scorer double

The Carlton skipper had a “minor shoulder ailment” against the Dogs and was not his usual prolific self, but it may have been worth some short-term pain, for long-term gain, with some of his less heralded teammates standing up in his absence. While Cripps will undoubtedly spend most of his time in the midfield, if he is under any cloud, or coach David Teague want to throw something different at the frugal Power backline, the solution could be moving his star up forward. That’s why we think the $2.30 for Cripps to score a goal, coupled with him earning 20 possessions (paying $1.50 with Unibet) is a prudent investment. This should earn you odds of around 3.80 with Unibet.

Travis Boak to earn over 25 touches

Power star Travis Boak had a rare down game against GWS with super-stopper Matt De Boer adding him to his long list of victims. Carlton have no such stopper and we think Boak is primed to make amends for his 16 possessions last outing. Boak is paying $2.40 to gather over 25 touches, just over two above his season average of 22.7 touches per game.

Carlton v Port Power prediction 19/7/20

Port Adelaide, when they are playing well, do not carry any passengers in 2020, but they showed a fortnight ago, when they lost to the Lions by 37 points they can have an off day, which could give the Blues a sniff. Having said this, Carlton and Port Adelaide’s best is a long way apart, and given the Blues have several injury concerns, including Cripps and ex-skipper Marc Murphy, we think beating the Power is going to be a bridge too far. Put the Power in your multibets with confidence. Our final Port Adelaide v Carlton prediction? Port by 22 points.
