AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Gold Coast Suns v Essendon betting tips, prediction and odds update for their AFL Round 11 clash at Mertricon Stadium on the Gold Coast on Wednesday night.

This match closes out round 11 and it’s a vital one for both teams if they want to challenge for a place in the finals.

The Bombers have won their past four matches against the Suns by an average of 23 points. In their most recent encounter in 2019 they won by only 10 points at this ground.

Gold Coast head into the match with an extra day’s rest as they lost a thriller by four points to St Kilda last Thursday night, while Essendon are coming off a four-point loss to GWS Giants on Friday night.

The Suns’ season has been somewhat deflated by run of three losses to Western Bulldogs, GWS and St Kilda, but they have been highly competitive in all those matches.

Essendon, who have a game in hand, were walloped by the Brisbane Lions before their good fighting effort against the Giants. They need to make a stand here or risk mid-table mediocrity this season.

The Bombers have a long injury list and unfortunately many of those injuries have come to their goal-scorers such as Jake Stringer, Joe Daniher and Orazio Fantasia. Their challenge will be kicking a winning score.

The Suns are in much better shape injury-wise, with young superstar Matt Rowell the main long-term casualty with a shoulder problem.

Gold Coast Suns v Essendon Bombers tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Suns v Bombers tips for Wednesday night’s game.

Gold Coast Suns -3.5 points/match total under 123.5 points

This double is paying around $3.40 with leading Australian bookie PlayUp. We are leaning towards a Suns win on their home turf and see it as fairly tight with goals hard to come by. Unless a player such as Shaun McKernan steps up and has a night out, the Bombers are really going to struggle to kick a winning score.

Izak Rankine to kick 2+ goals

Early in his career Rankine has already shown an innate ability to kick goals from half-chances. He looks a special talent and Essendon will already have their hands full containing the likes of Ben King and Alex Sexton. We love watching Rankine play already and are happy to bet he will cut loose to kick two as a minimum.

Gold Coast v Essendon prediction 12/8/2020

There should not be a lot in this clash but the Gold Coast just look to be in a lot better place physically than the Bombers. That combined with playing on their home ground should be enough to ensure the Suns continue their improvement with a win here. Essendon’s best hope of winning may well be to turn this into a dour struggle but the Suns have enough talent to prevail. Our Gold Coast v Essendon prediction? Suns by 15 points.
