GWS Giants v Collingwood betting tips, predictions & odds update, AFL Rd 4 2020

AFL finals week two: Geelong v Collingwood.

This GWS Giants v Collingwood match at Giants Stadium in Sydney is shaping as the match of the round between two teams who are expected to contend this season.

Collingwood have rocketed to the top of the premiership betting with most wagering operators and are sitting second on the ladder after two big wins and a draw against defending premiers Richmond from their three games.

Meanwhile, the Giants, who made the grand final last year but were humiliated in the biggest game of the year, cannot afford another early slip-up after two disappointing losses against North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs since the resumption.

The good news for Leon Cameron’s Giants is that they got the better of Collingwood twice last season: by 47 points during the regular season, and then by four points as they held off hot favourites Collingwood in an epic preliminary final.

GWS are likely to be bolstered for this match by the return from injury of dynamic forward Toby Greene (knee) and smooth-moving midfielder Josh Kelly (calf). Damaging ball user Lachie Whitfield (concussion) is also likely to play, meaning the Giants are at close to full strength for this clash.

Collingwood thumped a disappointing St Kilda last weekend and are likely to regain giant key position forward Mason Cox after a knee problem, with Pies recruit Darcy Cameron the player most likely to make way for Cox.

Giants v Magpies tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several quality Giants v Magpies tips for Friday night’s game.

Giants to win/over 123.5 points match total

The Giants simply cannot afford another slip-up at home, and they have a much more formidable look with Kelly and Greene back in the team. Their star-studded forward line will prove a handful even for the miserly Collingwood defence, which is conceding just under 36 points a game on average. They will be stung by their beating at the hands of the Bulldogs last week and will bounce back hard.

Jamie Elliott to kick three goals or more

The talented Magpies forward has looked in pretty good shape physically, and that should soon translate into a good haul of goals. He has been hampered by injuries for several seasons but when he is up and running he is as good as almost any small forward going around.

GWS Giants v Collingwood Magpies prediction 26/6/2020

This should be a classic encounter between two teams quickly building a significant rivalry. The Magpies will want some small measure of revenge for the Giants ending their premiership dream last season, while the Giants are too talented to simply slip away this season. We are a little surprised the Magpies have already been elevated to flag favouritism given their last two matches have been a draw with an out-of-sorts Richmond and an easy win against an inconsistent St Kilda team which was an also-ran last season. Mind you, the Giants have been poor. We think the challenge of taking on one of the power teams of the competition will get the competitive juices flowing. Our Giants-Magpies tip? GWS Giants by 14 points.
