North Melbourne v Brisbane betting tips, prediction and odds update; AFL rd 12 preview

Welcome to our North Melbourne v Brisbane betting tips, prediction and odds update for their round 12 AFL clash at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Roos are banking on a miracle with 17 players either injured or in doubt for the fixture, as Rhyce Shaw’s first full year in charge at the Roos turns into a nightmare. Opponent Brisbane are tracking nicely in comparison but they will also be missing several key players.

North Melbourne are coming off an ugly 57-point loss to Melbourne on Saturday in which they capitulated in the second half. The 16th-placed Roos kicked just one goal, as the packed COVID schedule looked to be taking its toll.

The Lions, a game clear in second position, are the league leaders for points scored and are coming off a commanding four-goal victory over the Western Bulldogs. An injury to Charlie Cameron has been revealed not to be as serious as first thought, although we are tipping he won’t be risked against the undermanned Roos.

AFL bookies have installed the Lions at around the $1.10 quote for this one, while those who think the Roos can cause one of the upsets of the year will be able to get odds of around $5.20. The $1.90 line has been set at 28.5.

The Lions will also be without defender Daniel Rich, who accepted a one-match ban incurred against the Western Bulldogs. They will also consider resting any players carrying niggles but Brownlow Medal favourite Lachie Neale will play despite some media reports.

The Roos are sweating on the fitness of Jed Anderson, Majak Daw Robbie Tarrant and Josh Walker, with their key position stocks set to be further depleted if they are not passed fit. These players will join the likes of Jack Ziebell and Ben Cunnington on the sidelines.

North Melbourne v Brisbane tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value Roos v Lions tips for Saturday’s game.

Lincoln McCarthy to score 2+ goals

McCarthy has bobbed up with multiple goals a few times this season, and with Charlie Cameron potentially missing with his knee injury, there is going to be some extra goals up for grabs for the opportunists. McCarthy is paying $3.60 in the betting to kick 2+ goals or a whopping $10 to score 3+.

Total points Over/Under 116.5

This one we consider to be more a heads-up than an outright tip, with the Gold Coast predicted to have scattered storms on Saturday. We think if it’s a wet game, the unders in the total match points are where the smart money will be going, with the Roos quite happy to turn the game into a dire scrap. If the rain holds off, this could get ugly and the Lions will win by plenty and challenge the 116.6 overs mark by themselves.

Cameron Zurhaar to kick 2+ goals

With emerging Roos star Nick Larkey likely to cop #1 Lion Harris Andrews, Zurhaar could receive plenty of opportunities. While we look away when Zurhaar kicks at goal, he definitely has some ability and the $3.30 odds for him to kick two majors looks to be good value.

North Melbourne v Brisbane prediction 15/8/2020

The Brisbane Lions are the hot favourites in this game and we tend to agree with the bookies. The Roos are just missing too many good, experienced players, forcing young players to tackle the daunting COVID fixture. We expect the game to be hard-fought in the first half before the Lions kick away in the second. The 28.5 line is very tempting, particularly if the rain holds off. Our final Brisbane v North Melbourne prediction? Lions by 32.
