NRL Friday: Broncos v Eels betting tips, prediction & odds, round 1, 2021

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta Eels match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, on Friday, March 12.

This is the second NRL match on Friday night with the earlier match pitting the Newcastle Knights against the Canterbury Bulldogs at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Broncos-Eels match has attracted plenty of attention, as new coach Kevin Walters attempts to turn around the fortunes of a once-powerful club that fell all the way to the wooden spoon last season.

The Broncos were simply woeful, losing their last 11 games of the season for a 3-17 record, and conceding more than 100 points more than the second-worst defensive team in the competition for 2020.

Walters’ first job will be to stiffen up that defence, but in Parramatta they meet a hardened outfit who crashed out of the finals in consecutive matches last season but were by no means disgraced.

Broncos and Eels team news for round 1

The Broncos have swung plenty of changes in the off-season. Losing star forward David Fifita to the Gold Coast Titans was probably the biggest blow personnel wise. They are also without star centre Kotoni Staggs, who suffered an ACL tear late last season, and prop Payne Haas, who is suspended until round four. Winger David Mead joins the Broncos to add some much-needed experience to a young back line, while Brodie Croft leads the team at halfback.

Parramatta have called in former Cowboy Tom Opacic in place of veteran centre Michael Jennings, who was  suspended for an alleged performance-enhancing drugs violation. Recruits Keegan Hipgrave (Titans) and Isaiah Papali’i (Warriors) start on the pine for their Eels debut.

Broncos v Eels free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Broncos-Eels betting tips for Friday’s game.

Broncos/Parramatta half-time/full-time double

The Broncos have named a young and slick back line that should prove a handful for the Eels and they will be pumped to make a big start in front of a loyal and expectant home crowd. However the Broncos have show a propensity to concede a lot of points in a hurry, and they did it again in their trial loss to the Cowboys after leading at half-time. We think the Broncos can lead again but that the Eels will wear them down.

Xavier Coates first-half Broncos first try-scorer

This option with rising Australian bookie TopSport means Coates must score first try for the Broncos and his four-pointer must come in the first half. Coates is an exciting talent and looms as the likely No.1 try scorer for the Brisbane team this season.

Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta Eels prediction 12-3-2021

There is no doubt the Broncos will improve this season … things just cannot get worse than they were in 2020 when everything went wrong. But they look a little light on in the forwards against a Parramatta team that was No.1 by a mile in offloads last season. The Eels will try to outmuscle the Broncos through the middle and they are likely to have success as the match wears on in what could be wet conditions. Our Broncos v Eels prediction: Parramatta to win by eight points.
