NRL Friday: Eels v Broncos betting tips, prediction & odds, round 19, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Parramatta Eels v Brisbane Broncos match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Bankwest Stadium on Friday, September 18.

The earlier NRL match on Friday night pits the North Queensland Cowboys against top team Penrith at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville, from 6pm.

But we will focus on the Eels-Broncos clash which is a chance for the Eels to get their faltering 2020 NRL title campaign back on track.

In the past five matches the Eels have lot to lowly St George Illawarra 14-12, beaten a below-strength Melbourne Storm 14-0, lost to South 38-0, struggled past the Warriors 24-18 and lost to the Panthers 20-2 last weekend. Those matches have revealed a worrying lack of potency in an attack that 10 weeks ago seemed unstoppable!

The match against the leaky Broncos defence should be an opportunity for the Eels to cut loose again.

In some ways their 58-0 thrashing of the Broncos in the finals last season was the start of the nosedive that has the Broncos facing a possible wooden spoon and seeking a new coach. When the teams met again earlier this season, the Eels again ran riot in a 34-6 win in Brisbane.

Of course, at this stage Parramatta coach Brad Arthur will be just happy with the two points for a win as they attempt to hold off Canberra in the race for fourth spot on the table. The Eels need to win this match and their final-round encounter with Wests Tigers to be sure of a double chance come finals time.

The Eels had good news on the injury front with tough hooker Reed Mahoney named after missing last week’s match with a shoulder problem. His replacement Ray Stone suffered a thumb injury and is unavailable.

The Broncos, who have lost nine straight games, are flailing their way to the end of the season. They have lost props Payne Haas (personal leave) and Rhys Kennedy (suspended) for this match, with Ben Te’o and Joe Ofahengaue called up. They were due to regain former Storm halfback Brodie Croft this week but he was hurt at training this week, with a possible concussion,

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Parramatta-Brisbane betting tips for Friday night’s game.

Parramatta to win/match total under 42.5 points

The Eels are just not the same team they were for the 10 weeks after the competition resumed. They are really struggling to find their way over the try line, so while think they will win, the 18.5-point line is a little demanding for our liking so we will just take them to win into the unders. The forecast is for plenty of rain which should make scoring even more difficult.

Staggs to score more tries than Jennings

Unibet is offering try-scorers head to head markets. The one we think offers value is the one putting Eels veteran Michael Jennings against the Broncos’ Kotoni Staggs, who has been one of the few shining lights for his team. T o win this bet, Staggs must score more tries than Jennings. There are three options: Staggs ($4.75), Jennings ($2.55) and a tie ($1.95).

Parramatta Eels v Brisbane Broncos prediction 18-9-2020

The Broncos will again try hard and they have been improved in recent matches but they have not even been close to snatching a win. The Eels have plenty to play for and will want to settle the nerves early. It should be decent fare for the neutral fan and in the end the Eels should just have too much power, with classy halfback Mitchell Moses calling the shots. Our Eels v Broncos prediction: Parramatta by 14 points.
