NRL Friday: Rabbitohs v Storm betting tips, prediction & odds, round 17, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our South Sydney v Melbourne Storm match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at ANZ Stadium on Friday, September 4.

This is a cracker of a match-up to cap off an exciting Friday night of NRL, with the 6pm match between Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks also vital in shaping the make-up of the final eight.

But the Rabbitohs-Storm clash could have a big bearing on the top four, where the winner of the NRL title is most likely to come from.

Souths have been in wonderful form, culminating in a 38-0 thrashing last round of one-time premiership favourites Parramatta. Likewise Melbourne have also been at the top of their game, although they did suffer a 14-0 loss to the Eels a fortnight ago when they had a badly injury-weakened side.

The Rabbits of course lost star fullback Latrell Mitchell to a serious hamstring injury in their big win against the Eels and he won’t be back this season. On the positive side back-line flyers Alex Johnston and Dane Gagai are available again and Johnston will slot in at fullback.

The Storm have a couple of injury issues of their own with centre Marion Seve (knee) out for the season and giant Nelson Asofa-Solomona (calf) missing at least this week. Hard-running utility Brenko Lee replaces Seve.

Rabbitohs v Storm free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Souths-Melbourne betting tips.

Souths +4.5 points/match total under 40.5

The doubles option is paying $3.30 with leading bookmaker Unibet. Souths have been in irresistible form and this is their chance to stake a claim for a top-four spot.

Campbell Graham to score first try at $17

When these teams met last season, the strapping centre scored three tries in a 26-16 loss. Graham will be feeling good about himself against this opposition and has also looked in good touch of late. He’s worth a small wager in a difficult market to crack, hence the juicy odds.

South Sydney Rabbitohs v Melbourne Storm prediction

South Sydney’s record against Melbourne Storm is appalling. The Storm have won eight of the past 10 matches between the teams and an astonish 22 of the past 25. Mind you, things may be different now Wayne Bennett is at the helm and the Rabbits are playing with such confidence. The loss of Mitchell is huge for the home team, but they have solid cover and the Storm will also really miss big Nelson Asofa-Solomona, who is always a handful for opposition packs. Storm have only had playmakers Cameron Smith, Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes back together for one match and it may take a little longer for them to be back at full tilt. Our Rabbitohs v Storm prediction: Souths by two points in a classic.
