NRL round 11: Raiders v Storm betting tips

Welcome to our preview and bettings tips for Canberra Raiders v South Sydney Rabbitohs at GIO Stadium on Saturday, July 25.

This is the final match of Super Saturday and we think it’s the pick of the matches, with the Raiders coming off an against-the-odds win against defending premiers Sydney Roosters and the Rabbitohs just falling short against Newcastle.

The earlier matches on Saturday are NZ Warriors v Sydney Roosters at Central Coast Stadium from 3pm, and the St George Illawarra Dragons-Cronulla Sharks derby from Netstrata Jubilee Stadium from 5.30pm.

The Raiders breathed new life into their injury ravaged season with their stunning win against the Roosters and they are still in the top-four mix sitting sixth, with six wins from 10 matches.

But Souths are just a win behind in eighth place. There is little statistically to separate these teams.

Wayne Bennett’s Bunnies have suffered injury woes of their own, with powerful centre James “the Jet” Roberts (pectoral) and back-rower Ethan Lowe (neck) ruled out for the rest of the season after the costly loss against the Knights.

Souths do regain Campbell Graham (facial fracture) in the centres, with Bayley Sironen into the starting line-up and Jack Johns joining the interchange for his debut. Johns is the son of Matthew Johns and nephew of the legendary halfback Andrew Johns.

Canberra finally had some good news on the injury front with influential second-rower John Bateman (shoulder) named on an extended bench after a long absence.

Canberra and Souths played twice last season and both matches were cliffhangers. The Rabbitohs won the first 16-12 at GIO Stadium, while the Raiders triumphed 16-10 in the second clash at the same ground when they met in the finals.

Raiders v Rabbitohs free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Raiders v Souths clash.

Raiders to win/match total under 38.5 points

Souths have a fantastic spine with the likes of hooker Damien Cook, five-eighth Cody Walker and halfback Adam Reynolds all wonderful attacking players. The also usually have Latrell Mitchell chiming in at fullback but he is serving a suspension and his place is taken by the experienced and capable Alex Johnston. But they are not as strong in the forwards lately and that’s where they need to step up this week. That is where we think the Raiders can grind their way to victory, led by arguably the best prop in the game, Josh Papalii.

Cody Walker to score a try for Souths

The quick-stepping pivot has scored four tries in his past five matches against the Raiders and he is always a threat. He will be the main source of attack with Mitchell sitting in the stands.

Raiders v Rabbitohs prediction

There should not be too much between these teams. They are both quality outfits with the Bunnies’ attack slightly better but the Raiders’ defence holding the edge. The Raiders of the past few years tend to lose only to the top echelon of teams in the NRL; the Bunnies want to be in that group, but they are not quite there yet and injuries and suspension may well hurt them this week. Our final selection: Canberra Raiders by eight points.
