NRL Saturday: Raiders v Roosters betting tips, prediction & odds, round 17, 2020

NRL finals: Panthers v Roosters 2020

Welcome to our Canberra Raiders v Sydney Roosters match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Gio Stadium on Saturday, September 5.

This Raiders-Roosters clash is a genuine blockbuster; not only does it pit last year’s grand finalists against each other, but fourth place on the NRL ladder and a double chance in the finals are on the line.

And throw in the fact that legendary favourite son Sonny Bill Williams is making his NRL return in the match and you just know the eyes of the rugby league world will be on GIO Stadium on Saturday night.

Of course, Trent Robinson’s Roosters famously won the controversial 2019 grand final 14-8.

These teams met at the SCG in round 10 this season and the Raiders caused an upset in winning 24-20.

Bookmakers have made the Roosters around $1.44 favourites for the clash, even though they have won only of their past six visits to Canberra.

This is a magnificent clash to finish off NRL Super Saturday that features earlier matches between Canterbury Bulldogs and Gold Coast Titans at ANZ Stadium, and Manly Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers at Lottoland.

The return of SBW for his first game for the Roosters in six years is great fodder for the media, but another inclusion is undoubtedly more important to their chances of winning this match and the NRL title. Electric five-eighth Luke Keary is back in the No.6 after recovering from a rib injury and he replaces Drew Hutchison.

For the Raiders, centre Curtis Scott (leg) is under an injury cloud with Matt Timoko on standby. Corey Harawira-Naera returns on the bench.

Raiders v Roosters free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Canberra-Roosters betting tips.

Canberra to win/match total under 38.5 points

This double is paying $4.90 with Unibet Australia. We sense an ambush for the Roosters here. All the talk this week has been about Sonny Bill Williams and Keary and how the Roosters are now ready to push for a third straight title. But the Raiders have also been in great form and playing at home gives them a great chance.

Josh Morris to score a try

The Roosters centre is playing his 300th NRL game which is a fantastic achievement. You just know Morris and his teammates will want to put the icing on the cake with a four-pointer and even though he is 34 he is playing as well as ever.

Canberra Raiders v Sydney Roosters prediction

This is a match to savour. A match between fierce rivals with so much at stakes and so many other points of interest heading into the match. We can’t help but feel the Raiders will play angry. They are being given little chance by many pundits in this match and their loss to the Roosters in the 2019 decider still burns. This is a chance to really hurt the Sydney glamour club’s chances of winning the title. Our Raiders v Roosters prediction: Raiders by two points.
