NRL Saturday: Roosters v Sharks betting tips, prediction & odds, round 19, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Sydney Roosters v Cronulla Sharks match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at the SCG on Saturday, September 19.

We chose this as our match of the day over the earlier matches as it’s an opprtunity to look at two teams that will be part of the finals action. The earlier matches on Saturday are Manly Sea Eagles v Gold Coast Titans from Lottoland at 3pm, and Melbourne Storm v Wests Tigers at Sunshine Coast Stadium from 5.30pm.

While the Roosters are two-time defending premiers and the favourites to make it three, they have not yet locked up a vital top-four spot for the finals.

If they slipped up here against the Sharks, they would probably need to win their final-round match against the unpredictable South Sydney to ensure a double chance come finals time.

The Roosters have won their past four matches against the Sharks by an average of a tick under 11 points. They have not clashed since round five 2019 when the Roosters won 30-16.

Cronulla will again be without suspended lock Wade Graham and halfback Chad Townsend as they attempt to measure their worth against the premiership favourites. They head into this clash with the same line-up that was too good for the Warriors last weekend.

The Roosters initially named captain Boyd Cordner in the starting line-up for this match after he suffered a head knock last weekend against the Knights but coach Trent Robinson ruled him out on Friday.

Cordner missed five matches earlier in the year after a concussion so the Roosters are playing it as safe as they can with the finals looming.

The tricolours have decided to rest gun fullback James Tedesco, prop Siosiua Taukeiaho and hooker Jake Friend, with Joseph Manu shifting to fullback and Mitch Aubusson to Manu’s centre spot. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is back at prop, while Freddy Lussick comes in to replace Friend at rake.

Roosters v Sharks free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Roosters-Sharks betting tips for Saturday night’s game.

Cronulla +16.5 points/match under 44.5

While the Sharks are missing a couple of key players for this clash, the Roosters have rested even more. The Sydney Roosters’ first-class defensive systems will take them a long way towards winning but with wet weather forecast we envisage a low-scoring battle. The 16.5-point line is a big hurdle to get over so we are happy to be on the Sharks with the start.

Ronaldo Mulitalo to score more tries than Brett Morris

Unibet offer an interesting head to head market with three possible outcomes: Player A to score more tries than Player B; Player B to score more tries than player A; and, Player A and Player B to score the same number of tries, including 0. We will take the fleet-footed Ronaldo Mulitalo ($5.25) to outscore veteran winger Brett Morris ($1.90). They are at $2.50 to tie.

Sydney Roosters v Cronulla Sharks prediction 19-9-2020

The Roosters just keep on winning, no matter who is in and out of the side. They are clearly a long way short of their best side for this clash but also have the added motivation of locking up a top four spot and winning for club stalwart Mitch Aubusson, who plays his 303rd match for the club. Aubusson overtakes Anthony Minichiello (302) and Luke Ricketson (301) as the most-capped player for the Roosters. We love watching the Sharks, with their often exciting style of play but they might find the Roosters defence just too tough to crack. Our Roosters v Sharks prediction: Roosters by six points.
