NRL Saturday: Sea Eagles v Panthers, predictions & odds, round 12, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Manly Warringah v Penrith NRL betting preview and free tips article for their clash at Lottoland on Saturday, August 1.

This is yet another defining clash for the injury-hit Sea Eagles, who have scrapped hard in the past couple of weeks to stay in the eight with wins against Parramatta and the North Queensland Cowboys.

The win against the Eels was especially important as it proves they have depth and belief under veteran coach Des Hasler.

Penrtih, however, are flying high at the top of the ladder and offer a new set of challenges. The Panthers have won their past five games and have lost just one match all season and drawn another.

Manly have struggled in attack, scoring an average of just 16 points a game as opposed to Penrith’s 23, but so far they have overcome that shortcoming with a sound defence.

There is little doubt Manly-Penrith is the match of the day on Saturday, with the earlier matches pitting Sydney Roosters against the Gold Coast Titans at the SCG from 3pm, and North Queensland against Canberra in Townsville from 5.30pm.

The Panthers regain damaging second-rower Viliame Kikau, with Tyrone May making way, while hooker Api Koroisau (elbow) is close to returning, which really gives the Panthers an imposing look, though they miss Dylan Edwards at fullback.

Meanwhile, Manly are still without superstar fullback Tom Trbjevoic but are close to getting back attacking whiz Dylan Walker .

Sea Eagles v Panthers free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Manly-Penrith clash.

Manly/Penrith half-time/full-time double

This bet requires Manly to lead at half-time but Penrith the win the match. There is around $7.50 available for this option at respected bookmaker Unibet. We envisage the Sea Eagles making a fast start at home but Penrith have really been able to find something extra down the stretch in so many games this season.

Penrith to win by 12 points or less

We expected a hugely physical encounter here between two powerhouse sets of forwards. Manly are one of the few teams with the firepower up front to match the Panthers so that battle in itself will be fascinating. We expect a tight tussle right to the final whistle.

Sea Eagles v Panthers prediction

The Panthers won the only clash between these two teams in the 2019 season 15-12. We expect a similarly close contest, and there is so much to look forward to for this one. There is the battle between two great sets of forwards, then the personal battle between two of the best halfbacks in the game in Manly’s Daly Cherry-Evans and Penrith’s Nathan Cleary. We are tipping the Panthers to get over the line by four points in a classic.
