In the last round of the season proper the Raiders won 38-28 at this ground, then they backed that up in the first week of the finals with a 32-20 win in Canberra.

The Sharks, though, will want to lift to celebrate captain Wade Graham’s 250th NRL game, and they are coming off a solid win in their round-one match against derby rivals St George Illawarra.

Ricky Stuart’s Canberra side also opened the season with a win, proving too solid for the Wests Tigers on home turf at GIO Stadium, Canberra.

Sharks v Raiders team news for round 2

The Sharks have made one forced change with centre Jesse Ramien taking an early guilty plea and being banned for three matches for his undisciplined high shot on Dragons flyer Matt Dufty. Former Souths youngster Mawene Hiroti comes into the team to take Ramien’s place.

Coach Stuart has stuck with the 17 who got the job done against the Wests Tigers in the first round. Veteran centre Jarrod Croker will be on the sidelines for at least another week, though he is ready to go after recovering from shoulder surgery in the off-season.

Sharks v Raiders free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Sharks-Raiders betting tips for Sunday’s game.

Sharks +5.5 points/match total over 40.5

The doubles option is paying $4.10 with Unibet Australia. Ordinarily we would back these teams to cover the 40.5 line easily. It has been made more difficult by the torrential rain in Sydney that is expected to continue through Sunday but we still think there will be enough repeat sets to ensure the scoring ticks over. The Sharks at home are still a tough proposition and we like them with the start..

Wade Graham to score a try at $4.50

As mentioned Graham is playing his milestone match and he has always been a useful try-scorer. He is the sort of player who can crash over from close range in the wet. And his teammates will be looking to get him across the stripe.

Cronulla Sharks v Canberra Raiders prediction 21-3-2021

The weather will play a part but this ground usually a good wet-weather ground and if we get a small break in the rain this game could reach good heights. Both teams were impressive in their opening matches, and they are both generally free-scoring teams. Having Josh Hodgson back at hooker gives the Raiders a more dangerous look, but it should be noted the Sharks have had a habit of unearthing quality youngsters lately. They are not ready to win a title but we think they are certainly ready to play patches of exciting football. They can be up there with Souths as the entertainers of the league. Our Sharks v Raiders prediction: Sharks by 2 points.
