NRL Thursday: Dragons v Rabbitohs, predictions & odds, round 12, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

St George Illawarra and South Sydney kick off round 12 at Kogarah and the stakes could not be higher for these two teams.

The Dragons are sitting in 11th spot on the NRL ladder with four wins and seven losses, while the Rabbitohs are 10th with five wins.

A loss in this match, particularly for the Dragons, could be terminal for the finals chances of both teams in this 20-round season.

These teams played twice in the 2019 season. In the first clash at Kogarah, the Rabbitohs ran riot after trailing 12-6 at half-time to win 34-18.

In the second meeting at ANZ Stadium, the Bunnies needed a 79th-minute try from Campbell Graham  to win 20-16.

Souths get a huge boost for this game with superstar Latrell Mitchell back at fullback after serving a two-match suspension.

Stand-in fullback Alex Johnston suffered a head knock against Canberra and must pass HIA protocols tio take his place on the wing.

St George regain tough second-rower Tariq Sims after suspension but have lost veteran forward Trent Merrin and halfback Adam Clune to head knocks.

That’s not too bad for the Dragons as they have Ben Hunt to slot straight back in at halfback and dynamo Cameron McInnes back to hooker.

Dragons v Rabbitohs free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Dragons v Rabbitohs clash.

Souths -4.5 points/match total over 41.5 points double

This double is available around the $3.50 mark and we are betting on it in the belief the Bunnies can finally cut down their unacceptable error rate. With Mitchell back it really gives them a much more dangerous look. They have threatened to cut loose scoring-wise and this could be the night on what is forecast to be perfect conditions.

Damien Cook to score a try

The Bunnies hooker is renowned for his dashes out of dummy-half, though this season he has been somewhat overloaded in defence. Cook is the leading tackles by numbers in the NRL this season, but we think coach Wayne Bennett (and the fans) would prefer to see his energy expended in attack. The Dragons are susceptible through the middle as the game wears on.

Dragons v Rabbitohs prediction

Souths have won the past four matches between these two teams and eight of the past 10. They are not travelling as well as they were last season, and a large part of their problem has been lack of go-forward from the pack and simply too many errors. Now that their season is on life-support they may thrown caution to the wind and really play some football and possibly rack up a few big scores in the process. Our final Dragons-Souths tip: South Sydney to win by 12 points.
