NRL Thursday: Rabbitohs v Bulldogs betting tips, prediction & odds, round 19, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our South Sydney Rabbitohs v Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at ANZ Stadium on Thursday, September 17.

This match kicks off the round and both teams have significant motivations: South need to win both their remaining games to have any chance of finishing in the top four, however unlikely, while a win for the Bulldogs will likely lift them off the bottom of the ladder. The Dogs have top team Penrith in the final round, so this is their chance to get above the hapless Broncos.

South Sydney have won five of their past six matches against the Bulldogs, including 26-10 in round eight this year after South led only 8-6 at half-time.

This season they have scored close to double the amount of points scored by the Bulldogs, who have really lacked spark in attack.

The Rabbitohs were lucky to win 26-24 against the Wests Tigers last weekend and veteran coach Wayne Bennett would not accept a similar performance here.

Souths must do without State of Origin star Dane Gagai, who was sin-binned for a punch against the Tigers and suspended for a match.

The Bulldogs are of course without star five-eighth Kieran Foran, while back-rower Matt Doorey (knee) goes out of the side this week. English prop Luke Thompson (calf) is available again.

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free South Sydney-Canterbury betting tips.

Dogs +16.5 points/match total under 44.5 points

The Dogs have been terrible in attack but OK in defence, so their best hope of upsetting the Rabbitohs lie in ramping up the defence and winning a low-scoring slog. While we don’t think they can win, the 16.5-point line looks a lot for a Souths team missing a couple of stars and not necessarily in top gear.

Adam Reynolds to score a try

The star halfback runs the show for the Bunnies with his pinpoint kicking and passing game, but every so often he chimes in with a run of his own. He should get the chance to stretch his legs against the Dogs.

South Sydney Rabbitohs v Canterbury Bulldogs prediction 17-9-2020

As mentioned Wayne Bennett would not want his team to put out another sloppy performance with the finals so close. We expect a fairly tight contest early as the Dogs have shown improved form of late. But ultimately the Bunnies are one of the best attacking teams in the comp and should prevail. Our Rabbitohs v Bulldogs prediction: Souths by 10 points.
