Port Adelaide v Richmond betting tips, prediction & odds analysis; AFL Preliminary Final preview 2020

Welcome to our betting preview of the round 11 opener between Port Adelaide and Richmond at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday, August 8.

In the midst of this non-stop run of AFL football, this is a rare genuine blockbuster, with the Power staking a claim as the team most likely to dethrone the Tigers, who have won two of the past three flags.

Richmond have won the past two clashes between the teams, both in 2019, by seven points at Adelaide Oval and 38 points at the MCG.

But the 2020 Power are a slick outfit in good form, playing an attractive brand of football with a big key target forward in Charlie Dixon and some seriously talented small forwards.

Richmond have clicked back into gear the past few matches, thrashing Western Bulldogs and Brisbane and are playing their aggressive, belt the ball forwards style. It’s not pretty by any means but it’s effective and it works in big matches.

On the injury front, the Tigers have a lengthy list of players unavailable but should regain utility Josh Caddy for this match after a hamstring problem. They have decided to leave veteran captain Trent Cochin in the Queensland hub for a rest, while defender Bachar Houli will likely be available for the round 12 match against the Gold Coast Suns.

Port Adelaide’s list is in good shape injury-wise and they could regain premiership ruckman Scott Lycett for the match against the Tigers, while veteran midfielder Brad Ebert is recovering from a concussion.

Port/Richmond half-time/full-time double

This option with leading bookie PlayUp requires Port Adelaide to lead at half-time and Richmond at full-time. We can see the Power making a fast start before they are worn down by the physical and relentless nature of the Tigers’ game plan.

Match total over over 114.5 points

You can use this option in conjunction with which team you like to win to boost your odds. While the weather in Adelaide is not expected to be great, both these teams can score on the fast break regularly and we expect that to be the case here. This is not a high mark for a couple of high-quality sides that favour attacking football.
