AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Sydney v Western Bulldogs betting tips and predictions for Thursday night’s clash from the SCG.

The Swans have started the COVID-19-interrupted AFL season in surprising fashion, with two wins from three outings, but face perhaps their sternest test yet against the resurgent Bulldogs.

The Dogs dismantled fellow finals aspirant GWS by 24 points at Marvel Stadium last Friday night, after a slow start to the season in which they dropped successive games to Collingwood and St Kilda.

The Swans rebounded from a disappointing round-two loss to Essendon with an 11-point win over North Melbourne, who had yet to drop a game in 2020.

Despite the Bulldogs losing prolific midfielder Josh Dunkley to a serious knee injury the bookies cannot split these two teams, with both around the $1.90 mark to record a victory in this contest.

The Bulldogs will also be without skipper Easton Wood with a quad injury and Lachie Hunter, who still has two games to serve on his club-imposed suspension after a drink-driving incident during the COVID layoff.

The Bulldogs will, however, blood youngster Louis Butler, who is a lightly-framed defender from the Sandringham Dragons taken with pick 53 in the 2019 AFL Draft.

The Swans will again be without superstar forward Lance Franklin with this loss compounded by Tom McCartin suffering a concussion against the Roos and Sam Reid’s continued trouble with his calf.

While both teams have key injuries this clash is shaping as a beauty, with some of the best young players in the league such as the Dogs’ Bailey Smith and Swans’ Isaac Heeney in action.

The Swans will also have extra motivation with veteran midfielder Josh Kennedy to play his 250th game against the Bulldogs, after starting his career at Hawthorn.

Sydney v Western Bulldogs tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several quality Sydney v Western Bulldogs tips ahead of Thursday night’s game.

Western Bulldogs to win by 1-39 points

Our first Bulldogs v Swans tip is the Bulldogs to win a close one, with the best value coming in the margin betting market, with this paying $2.25 for a Bulldogs victory. We feel like the form of the Bulldogs and Swans is similar and we can’t see this game being a blowout. While the $2.25 on offer is probably not a stand-alone bet, we think this a great leg for those placing multis on round four of the AFL.

Aaron Naughton to score 3+ goals

The young Bulldog has started 2020 slowly despite being a lovechild of the Channel 7 commentary team. Aaron Naughton is likely to cop talented Swans defender Aliir Aliir but he was looking ginger in the latter stages of their clash against the Kangaroos, and we think Naughton is due for a big performance. Naughton is paying $6 to score three or more goals which we think is great value on the fast deck at the SCG.

Sydney Swans v Western Bulldogs prediction 25/6/2020

The Western Bulldogs look too strong in this clash, despite missing several key players, with their Marcus Bontempelli-led midfield set to show the way against the Swans. We really rated the Bulldogs heading into 2020, but we have somewhat tempered those expectations after a slow start and the injury to Josh Dunkley, but we think they will be too good for the rebuilding Swans whose forward line is decimated by injury. Our final Bulldogs v Swans prediction? The Western Bulldogs by 22 points.
