AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Western Bulldogs v Geelong betting tips, prediction and odds update for their AFL round 14 clash at Metricon Stadium on Friday night.

In most weeks this would be a candidate for match of the round as it pits third -placed Geelong, with four straight win, against the rapidly improving Dogs, who are sitting in eighth place.

That title clearly goes to the Tigers-Eagles clash on Thursday, though that is not to say this won’t be a fantastic match-up.

Western Bulldogs have been inconsistent this year but Luke Beveridge has them humming at the moment and their best is certainly good enough to trouble any team in the comp.

The Bulldogs have won two of the past three meetings between these sides, including the most recent by 16 points in round 16, 2019. But before that trio of matches they had been the Cats’ whipping boys, with 11 straight wins for the men from Kardinia Park.

The Bulldogs head into this match with an extra day’s rest after they blitzed Melbourne on the Gold Coast last Saturday. A day later Geelong comfortably accounted for winless Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood (knee) missed the clash against the Crows and is not rated likely to face the Dogs, but the Cats will regain veteran defender Harry Taylor after he was rested in round 13. The Cats have among the healthiest lists in the league with the finals on the horizon.

Likewise the Western Bulldogs have close to a full list to select from, with Matt Suckling and Zaine Cordy close to resuming in an already strong squad. None of the players on their injury list are first-choice selections, and they look a far more accomplished team with Josh Dunkley and Lachie Hunter back and racking up big numbers in the midfield.

Western Bulldogs v Geelong tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several Dogs v Cats tips for Friday’s game.

Either team to win by 15 points or less

This option is available at leading bookie Unibet Australia and is paying $2.30. We see it being fairly tight, with both teams in good form and a lot on the line.

Bulldogs +9.5 points/match total over 124.5 points

Chec out PlayUp for this standard double. We think the Bulldogs have struck the sort of form that makes them the team no one wants to play in the run home. Their midfield is formidable when it is running hot and they have plenty of goal-scoring options.

Western Bulldogs v Geelong Cats prediction 28/8/2020

The bookies have posted Geelong as strong favourites for this one but we tend to think the Cats are slightly overrated and the Dogs are slightly underrated. A big feature of Geelong’s surge this year has been the wonderful form of key forward Tom Hawkins. If the Dogs’ big defenders can contain Tomahawk they will go a long way towards winning the match. Our final Western Bulldogs v Geelong prediction? Bulldogs by 12 points.
