brisbane Lions v st kilda betting tips, prediction & Odds update; AFL rd 13 preview

Welcome to our Brisbane v St Kilda betting tips, prediction and odds update  for their AFL round 13 clash at the Gabba on Sunday.

In a clash between two clubs well and truly in the mix for a top four position, we are expecting a cracking encounter in fine conditions, as the Covid-impacted season rolls on. However there might not be crowds with the Queensland Government enforcing new restrictions following an outbreak of the deadly virus.

The Lions are coming off a one-point victory over North Melbourne on Saturday. This game was closer than it should have been, after the Roos kicked several late goals, including one after the siren to give them a scare. Brisbane’s inability to put the struggling Roos away will have given the Saints belief they can defeat the home team.

St Kilda last played on Sunday when they eclipsed Essendon by 35 points with young key forward prospect Max King starring with three goals (and lining our pockets in the process). They were super-impressive in dismissing an Essendon team that had players such as Dylan Shiel firing.

The bookies have installed Brisbane as a hot $1.40 favourite for this clash against St Kilda ($2.88) which is really remarkable given it is second vs fifth place on the AFL ladder. The $1.90 line has been set at 15.5 points for the clash.

St Kilda have won four of the past five meetings between these teams but the latest meeting in 2019 was a comprehensive win for the Lions.

Brisbane could be boosted by the inclusion of youngster Cam Rayner, who was close to returning last week from a hamstring complaint, and long-kicking Daniel Rich from suspension. The Lions have very few injuries in comparison to other clubs with only Connor McFadyen ruled out for the season.

St Kilda have a growing injury crisis, with star midfield Seb Ross in some doubt ahead of the Lions clash, while Dan Hannebery, Jade Gresham and Luke Dunstan face a race against time to play again in 2020. They will however recall Jake Carlisle and Dean Kent who were rested against the Bombers.

Brisbane v St Kilda tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Brisbane v St Kilda tips for Sunday’s game.

Either team by 15 points or less (tribet)

We have framed this game a lot closer than the AFL betting sites on this occasion, which means taking either team to win by 15 points or less offers some great value at $2.63. While Brisbane should be favourite courtesy of the home ground and St Kilda’s injury list, they did not set the world on fire last week and the Saints have improved greatly under Brett Ratten and have plenty to play for themselves. Like most games between good teams this year, we expect it to be a low-scoring slog, with the winner to be decided in the final quarter.

Over/under points total

The over/under mark has been set at 134.5 for this clash, which looks a bit too high for us, given these are two good teams that tend to hold their structure under pressure. This means they give up fewer goals. Keep an eye on the teams, but the unders here looks to be the good bet, with this paying $1.88.

Max King to kick 2+ goals

St Kilda would be as happy as they could possibly be with their young spearhead, who has kicked 18.8 for the season, just one goal behind his twin brother, Ben. The Saints are building their forward line around King, without putting too much pressure on him. This works because the likes of Tim Membrey and ruckmen Paddy Ryder and Rowen Marshall give him some shelter. We think he’s a good thing to kick 2+ goals here at $2.60.

Brisbane v St Kilda prediction 23/8/2020

St Kilda can stake a claim for a top four position against the Lions, with Brett Ratten’s team needing a big scalp to announce themselves as a flag contender. It’s very temping to take the underdog here. But Brisbane struggled to overcome the Roos last week, and in the end the Saints’ injury-list has convinced us to stick with the bookies’ elect. The Lions are well rested and have few injuries. Our final Brisbane v St Kilda prediction? Lions by 5 points.
