NRL Thursday: Dragons v Roosters, predictions & odds, round 13, 2020

NRL finals: Panthers v Roosters 2020

Welcome to our St George Illawarra v Sydney Roosters NRL betting preview and free tips article for their clash at WIN Stadium, Wollongong, on Thursday, August 6.

This is close to the last roll of the dice for the Dragons’ hopes of making the finals and they are not without a chance of an upset against a Roosters side decimated by injury and playing without their usual flair.

The two-time defending premiers have ground to unimpressive wins the past two rounds against the Warriors and Titans, but the good news for fans is they are sitting in fourth with plenty of good players to come back.

St George Illawarra have been their own worst enemies in recent matches they might easily have won against Cronulla and Souths. Young centre Zac Lomax has been representative of their season; probably already their greatest attacking spark yet so error-prone.

The Dragons have lost patience with Corey Norman and regain Adam Clune at halfback with Ben Hunt shifting to five-eighth.

The Roosters have the likes of Boyd Cordner (concussion), Brett Morris (back), Angus Crichton (knee) and Daniel Tupou (ankle) missing along with long-term casualties Victor Radley and Sam Verrills. They have preferred Lachlan Lam at halfback to the NRL’s top point-scorer this season, Kyle Flanagan.

Dragons v Roosters free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the St George Illawarra-Sydney Roosters clash.

St George Illawarra +11.5 points/match total under 40.5 points

We really believe the Dragons have a strong shot at winning outright at home and the early money this week suggests many punters agree. The Roosters are still a strong outfit but the injuries really hurt, especially that to inspirational leader Boyd Cordner. They will turn this match into a forward battle which should keep the points down.

Zac Lomax to score a try

The towering young centre really knows how to find the line with eight tries from 12 games this season. It will be tough against a team renowned for sliding defence but it will help that one Morris brother is missing and the other is returning from injury. They are outstanding defensive players. We’ll back Lomax to crash over.

St George Illawarra Dragons v Sydney Roosters prediction

This is one to look forward to between two old enemies. The Roosters are doing what they do and staying right in the hunt for a hat-trick of premierships though they need a lot to go right in the second half of the season. The Dragons have no trouble scoring, but at the same time they are leaking far too many points. We expect this to be a lot closer than what the odds say. Our final St George-Illawarra-Sydney Roosters prediction? The Roosters by two points.
