NRL Thursday: Sea Eagles v Panthers betting tips, prediction & odds, round 4, 2021

NRL round 18 title odds update

Read on for our Manly v Penrith match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Lottoland, Manly, on Thursday, April 1.

This looks like a one-sided contest to kick off the Easter weekend, given the dominance the Panthers have held over the Sea Eagles for the best part of a decade and also their respective form in the first three rounds of the season.

Penrith have won nine of the past 11 meetings between the teams and in their only meeting last year, the thrashed Manly in Manly to the tune of 42-12.

This season the Panthers are sitting top of the table with three wins from three games and just 10 points conceded, while the Sea Eagles are sitting stone last with no wins and 110 points conceded, and are still missing their gun player Tom Trbojevic.

Des Hasler’s team badly needs an injection of self-belief and also to hang on to the ball, with their completion rate among the worst in the NRL.

Sea Eagles v Panthers team news for round 4

Tom Trbojevic (hamstring) is reportedly at least a week or two from resuming and Manly have made just one change to the 17 from the ugly defeat against St George Illawarra last weekend.

Second-rower Morgan Boyle replaces Toafofoa Sipley on the bench.

Meanwhile, Penrith regain their talismanic halfback Nathan Cleary after he missed last week’s epic win over Melbourne Storm with mild concussion.

Fullback Dylan Edwards (broken hand) could miss around four matches, and centre Stephen Crichton changes to the No.1 jersey. Matt Burton moves from the bench to replace Crichton at centre.

Sea Eagles v Panthers free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Manly-Penrith betting tips for Thursday’s game.

Manly +18.5 points/match total over 41.5 points

This double option is paying $5.10 with leading booki Unibet. We don’t think Manly can win but they will certainly be steeled to put some embarrassing performances behind them. The forecast is clear and at some stage the Sea Eagles will find some much needed fluency in attack. Just enough to get the match total over the mark, we hope.

Viliame Kikau first try-scorer at $11

Kikau is a bona fide star of the competition and when the Panthers need to bend or break the line, he is the man. Loves getting wide and we can see him crashing through the defence to get the ball rolling for the Panthers. As always, we consider the first try-scorer bet highly speculative and more for entertainment than serious analysis, so it’s a small bet for us this time.

Manly Sea Eagles v Penrith Panthers prediction 1-4-2021

Penrith are warm NRL title favourites and with good reason. But it is a long season and there is no use going all out in April. They just look too classy all round for the struggling Sea Eagles, but it should not be forgotten that this match is on Manly’s home turf, which counts for something. Also, Edwards is a big loss as he is so full of energy in attack and so safe under the high ball. So, a Penrith win but not the 40-point flogging that many predict. Our Sea Eagles v Panthers prediction: Penrith to win by 14 points.
