Round 6 AFL odds 2021 — Magpies favourite for Anzac Day

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Round 6 of the 2021 AFL season kicks off on Friday, April 23, and runs until Anzac Day, Sunday, April 25. Our AFL betting experts have examined the odds in our regular Monday column taking an early look at the matches for the week ahead.

GWS will have a clearer picture of where they sit in the AFL pecking order after they host the Western Bulldogs at Manuka Oval, Canberra, on Friday night.

The Giants have breathed life into their flagging season after winning successive games against Collingwood and Sydney, to leave their win-loss record 2-3 after five rounds.

The unbeaten Bulldogs are enjoying their best start to a season since 1946 and are coming off a 62-point demolition of the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday.

The Giants will have to defy the odds again to win, priced at $3.25, while the red-hot Bulldogs are $1.35 and shortening.

In what looms as match of the round, Geelong will host West Coast on Saturday afternoon, with the Cats paying $1.81 to win, while West Coast are at $2.04.

Both of these teams would not be happy with their form, but are within striking distance of the top four and have players to return.

Gold Coast ($2.60) will host the Sydney Swans ($1.50), who are looking to bounce back after their last gasp loss to GWS.

Carlton’s ailing season will continue against Brisbane at Marvel Stadium in Saturday’s twilight fixture, with the Blues feeling the heat following their capitulation against undermanned Port Adelaide.

The Blues are paying $2.23 with leading AFL betting sites, while the Lions ($1.50) are coming off their strongest performance this year, an easy victory over Essendon.

Melbourne ($2.46), sitting 5-0, will lock horns with Richmond ($1.55) at the MCG on Saturday night in what will prove a litmus test, and another match with claims to be match of the round.

The Demons were magnificent against Hawthorn, firstly weathering the storm and then putting the foot down in the second half. But the Tigers were equally as bold, thrashing St Kilda to the tune of 86 points.

Fremantle ($1.08) will host struggling North Melbourne ($7.50) at Optus Stadium in the final Saturday game, with the Dockers coming off a rare away win against Adelaide.

On Sunday, Hawthorn ($1.65) will return to Tasmania, where they will host the Adelaide Crows ($2.25) at the University of Tasmania Stadium. The Hawks are favoured to win with several key Crows, including Matt Crouch and Rory Sloane, still several weeks away from returning from injury.

Collingwood ($1.73) is favoured to defeat Essendon at the MCG on Sunday, in the traditional Anzac Day clash, despite suffering several more key injuries in their loss to the West Coast.

The Magpies will be without gun defender Jeremy Howe (hamstring) and Jordan De Goey (concussion) with the pair already ruled out.

Port Adelaide ($1.22) will host St Kilda ($4.35) at the Adelaide Oval to finish off round 6 of the AFL season. The Power were impressive against Carlton, despite missing several of their best, while St Kilda’s season is seemingly in freefall, with injuries and form problems plaguing Brett Ratten’s team.

AFL Premiership odds before Round 6

Western Bulldogs have shorted further in AFL premiership betting, leading bookmaker TopSport trimming them from $7 into $5.50, after their demolition of the Gold Coast.

Melbourne has also received plenty of attention from punters, moving from $13 into $11, with an intriguing clash against Richmond on the horizon.

Sydney Swans were the big slider following round 5 after they were pipped at the post by GWS, with their premiership odds ballooning from $11 to $16.

Bookies believe it’s been narrowed down to a race in eight, with teams rated equal ninth in the betting at TopSport – Collingwood, Carlton, St Kilda and GWS – all rated as $51 chances to lift the AFL trophy.

The Saints blew out from $23 and the Magpies from $26. Of those teams we think the Saints have the most scope to get themselves back into the mix.
