The Saints have won just one of their past 10 matches against Geelong, and that was at Marvel Stadium in 2016, with one draw and eight losses. Those eight losses have been by an average of around 46 points.

The Cats beat North Melbourne by 33 points in their most recent match last Wednesday, while St Kilda just got over the line last Thursday against the Gold Coast.

Geelong also have one eye on their round 12 match-up against ladder leaders Port Adelaide this Friday night at the Gold Coast.

The good news for coach Chris Scott is that Geelong has possibly the healthiest list in the AFL, with the only long-term concern over Gary Ablett (personal reasons). They could regain up to five players for this match including Brandan Parfitt, Esava Ratugolea, Jake Kolodjashnij, Gary Rohan and Jordan Clark, who has made a swift recover from a dislocated shoulder.

The Saints’ next match is against Essendon at the Gabba on Sunday, August 16. Their list is in a fairly healthy place although Dan Hannebery (hamstring) seems unlikely to make it back this season.

We have no knock on Geelong at all; they are a rock-solid team and are again looming as a real threat. But they may struggle with the pace and dare of the 2020 Saints on a fast track at the Gabba.
