West Coast v GWS betting tips, prediction & odds update

The second-last match of round 13 of the AFL season is a blockbuster between the Eagles and Giants, which has huge ramifications for one team’s finals chances. Here is our full preview and West Coast v Giants betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of Sunday’s game at Optus Stadium, Perth.

West Coast have won seven games in a row and moved into fourth position on the AFL ladder. Their opponent sits tenuously in 10th spot, desperately needing a win to revive their flagging season.

With the season shortened, because of the covid-19 pandemic, this clash has taken on much greater context than other round 13 games in previous years and a loss for the Giants would see their odds of making the finals dramatically lengthen.

AFL bookmakers have priced the red-hot Eagles as favourite to win the clash at $1.35 and Greater Western Sydney major outsiders at $3.25. The line in Eagles v Giants betting has been set at 17.5 points and will be a tempting proposition for fans of both clubs.

In a troubling sign for the Eagles ahead of a block of five games in 19 days, they have 12 players on the injury list, including prime mover Elliot Yeo and tagger Mark Hutchings. Other senior players who won’t take the field against the Giants include Liam Duggan, Jack Petrucelle, Jack Redden and Will Schofield.

The Giants have not yet declared whether Toby Greene will return from his latest injury setback, with this decision expected on Saturday night. His inclusion has huge repercussions for punters with the Giants a significantly better team with him on the field. They could regain captain Phil Davis who will undergo a fitness test on a knee injury, but super-tagger Matt de Boer is another game away from returning from his hamstring.

West Coast v GWS betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Eagles v Giants tips for Sunday’s game.

Josh Kennedy to kick 3+ goals

When you’re hot you are hot and Eagles spearhead Josh Kennedy has been in great form. The veteran Kennedy copped a bit of a pasting from us when he was struggling earlier in the season, but we have jumped on his hot streak with great impact since. He is only paying $2.10 to kick 3+ goals but is too hard to ignore in present form and we’re going to anchor a same game multi with this leg.

Over or Unders betting at Unibet

These two teams are a bit of a contrast in styles, which we think could lead to a free-scoring affair. The Eagles’ precise ball use and ability to build attack from the back half and then hem teams in their own front-half with a magnificent zone is proven on the big stage. The Giants when they are playing well are a run-and-gun team, with attack built by the likes of Lachie Whitfield and Zac Williams, but if they get it wrong a structured team with a gun forward-line like the Eagles can take advantage. The overs is paying $1.88 here and take it with confidence unless it rains in Perth on Sunday.

West Coast Eagles v GWS Giants prediction 23/8/2020

The stars are aligning for West Coast in 2020, with the amount of games they are playing on their home deck surely playing to their advantage. Their strong structure at both ends and dominant midfield, even with Elliot Yeo out, makes it very hard to bet against them when they are playing in Perth. For the Giants, a lot hinges on the fitness of Toby Greene. Their attack looks so much more potent with the fiery forward-mid in the team. Phil Davis to anchor their backline is also crucial in this game. While we won’t lock in a final West Coast v GWS prediction until the teams are announced, we expect the Eagles to win this game.
