Sydney v Collingwood betting tips, prediction and odds update; AFL round 9 preview 2021

Welcome to our Sydney v Collingwood tips, predictions and odds analysis for their AFL round 9 clash at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.

Collingwood have won the last two matches between the clubs, the last of these coming in round 10 last season, but much has changed. The Magpies are injury hit and rebuilding, while the Swans have been a surprise packet with five wins.

Sydney are $1.29 favourites to defeat the Magpies ($3.64), who the punters have abandoned in droves despite defeating North Melbourne last outing. The line has been set at 21.5 and the over/under total points at 168.5 with Playup

NRL Saturday: Roosters v Cowboys tips

The Swans had their chances against undefeated Melbourne last outing, eventually falling short by nine points, with their superstar Lance Franklin making it through unscathed, and they showed they could match it with the best.

The Magpies’ win over the Kangaroos was punctuated by a stellar six-goal performance from Jordan De Goey and the return of Darcy Moore, who was typically dominant, to the backline after a failed forward experiment.

Sydney, which has a remarkably healthy list, is set to be boosted by Isaac Heeney and George Hewett, with the star pair set to return from an ankle and concussion injuries.

Collingwood have been further decimated for this clash with defenders Jordan Roughead (concussion) and Nathan Murphy (concussion) both forced  out of the line-up.  This does however leave the salivating possibility of a Moore v Franklin match-up eventuating.

Sydney Swans v Collingwood Magpies tips

Our AFL betting has examined the markets and found some value Sydney v Collingwood tips:

Luke Parker to get over 25 touches

Luke Parker is still the Swans’ best midfielder and the exact type of player that has troubled the Magpies this season. We expect him to rack up a big possessions count against the Magpies and with Callum Mills potentially manning De Goey, Parker looms as the main man again here. He is paying $1.40 to gather over 25 touches.

Beau McReery to kick 2+ goals

McReery has quickly established himself in the Magpies’ line-up with his hard-at-it approach and goal-sense quickly making him a favourite among fans. He does not need many chances to kick two goals and we think he offers some nice value to do it here at $2.30.

Collingwood +21.5 in line betting

The Magpies are going to sorely miss Jordan Roughead against the Swans, who do have some marking power up forward, but we think they can stay close despite their inexperienced backline. Sydney very rarely put a team to the sword and we can’t see it happening to a team with Scott Pendlebury, Jordan De Goey and Darcy Moore in it.

Sydney v Collingwood prediction 15/5/2021

Sydney clearly steeled themselves for a big performance against Melbourne last outing, but fell short against an undefeated team, in a promising display. However we have seen young teams play outstanding and then fall away the following week and the Magpies have a habit of beating them in Sydney. The Swans deserve favoritism but we think it might be a bit closer than expected. Our final Sydney v Collingwood prediction? Swans by 11 points.
