Port Adelaide v Sydney Swans betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL Rd 14 preview

Welcome to our Port Adelaide v Sydney betting tips, prediction and odds analysis ahead of their AFL round 14 clash at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon.

These two teams are at opposite ends of the ladder, but as we have seen in recent weeks the overwhelming Covid-impacted schedule can contribute to shock results.

Sitting in first place, the Power last played on Saturday when they defeated Hawthorn by 10 points, in a hard-fought contest in Adelaide. Their opposition, the 16th-placed Swans, last played in Perth on Saturday when they were eclipsed by an impressive Fremantle as their inability to score was laid bare.

The Power won both encounters against the Swans last season, a 47-point win at home in round 21, and a 23-point victory on the road in round 2.

Port Adelaide have been installed $1.15 favourites and the Swans $5.50 outsiders in the betting, while the $1.90 line has been set at 29.5 points.

The Adelaide-based club have been boosted by the return of Todd Marshall (thumb) and Ryan Burton (hamstring) but face a ruck problem with Scott Lycett in a race against time to overcome a knee injury. This is compounded by Peter Ladhams still having two matches to serve on his suspension. Young star Connor Rozee has also been passed fit to return from a heel injury.

The injury-hit Swans have little firepower to return in 2020 but were boosted by the return of co-captain Josh Kennedy against the Dockers. They have yet to declare any fresh injuries but already have 11 players ruled out for the season. For this match they have included Aliir Aliir,Justin McInerney and Ryan Clarke.

Port Adelaide v Sydney tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found some Power v Swans tips for Saturday’s game.

Power to cover the -29.5 line

Sydney are just missing too many key players to trouble the Power in this contest and we can see the home team winning easily. The young Swans were thoroughly outpointed by Fremantle and another week on the road will take its toll here. The Power look to be stronger in both defence and offence. The Power to cover -29.5 line is a conservative but smart wager on this game and one we have included in our multibets.

Connor Rozee to kick 2+ goals

Rozee has been missing from the Power line-up for a few games now, but he has shown that he can play well fresh. Rozee is an excitement machine who is likely to be reintroduced to the team as a forward, before being transitioned into more midfield minutes. We’ll back this huge talent to kick 2+ goals, which should be paying around the $5 mark but you might not find him in the betting until the teams are named.

Port Adelaide v Sydney prediction 29/8/2020

Port Adelaide must win this game to maintain their grip on top position on the ladder. Any ruck issues are unlikely to be exposed against the Swans, who have been hit by injury to key talls themselves. The midfield battle will decide this match. If the Power’s midfield gets on top this will be a blowout, but if the Swans can break even we think they can stay in touch, before falling away in the second half. The Power’s tall forwards will prove to be too much for the rebuilding Swans. Our final Port Adelaide v Sydney prediction? Power by 33 points.
