AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Carlton v Sydney Swans betting tips, prediction and odds update for their AFL round 16 clash at Metricon Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Blues are sitting in 12th spot on the ladder and need a miracle to make the finals after their nine-point loss to GWS Giants last Thursday and the loss to arch rivals Collingwood the previous Sunday took the wind out of their sails.

Sydney are sitting 15th and likewise won’t be playing finals, but their latest outing, also last Thursday, was much more impressive. The Swans ambushed Melbourne in Cairns to kill the Demons’ finals ambitions.

The Swans have an imposing record against the Blues, having won 10 of the past 12 meetings between the teams, though Carlton won the most recent meeting by seven points at the SCG in round 17, 2019.

Carlton have decided to manage veteran goal sneak Eddie Betts and ruckman Marc Pittonet for this clash, while they have dropped Cameron Polson and struggling mid Paddy Dow.

Into the team come David Cuningham, defender Lachie Plowman, young ruckman Tom De Koning and 179cm former basketballer Matthew Owies, who is making his AFL debut as a small forward.

Sydney have stuck with the side the put Melbourne to the sword. Much interest will centre on the performance of gun small forward Tom Papley, who tried to move to the Blues at the end of last season.

Carlton v Sydney tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Blues v Swans tips for Tuesday night’s game.

Tri-Bet: Either team under 15.5 points

We expect a close one, with little separating these teams on the ladder and also in terms of talent on the park. The Swans have been in slightly better form but have to battle a tough travel schedule. This one goes right to the wire.

Carlton to win/match total over 118.5 points

The forecast is clear for the Gold Coast weather and both teams should be able to play without too many inhibitions given their standing outside the finals race. Carlton captain Patrick Cripps has been down on form but is due a big one and he can drive his team to a narrow win, with more dangerous tall forwards in the Blues side than in the Swans.

Carlton Blues v Sydney Swans prediction 8/9/2020

Neither team has an edge here in terms of resting up for the match as they both played last Thursday, and before that the Swans played on Saturday and the Blues on Sunday. But Carlton do have a decisive advantage in terms of travel, with their two matches at the Gabba and Metricon Stadium, while the Swans played at Adelaide and then Cairns. That could be telling, though the Swans have named an unchanged line-up which is promising. We don’t see a blowout result here and even though neither team is headed to the finals, it should be a good one for the neutrals with some real talent on show. Our final Carlton-Sydney Swans prediction? Carlton by 10 points,
