Melbourne v Port Power betting tips & prediction; AFL Rd 9 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Melbourne v Port Adelaide betting tips and prediction for their clash on Thursday night, the second day of 20 successive days of AFL football.

The Demons have enjoyed a strong patch of form, winning two out of their last three games, with their latest clash a four-point loss to Brisbane in horrific conditions at the Gabba.

Port Adelaide will be desperate to atone for their big loss to St Kilda on Saturday, which saw them give up their four-point lead at the top of the AFL ladder, with Brisbane now on the same number of points.

Port Adelaide are the favourites in the betting for this one, having been installed at $1.65, with the Demons priced at $2.20. The line has been set at 6.5 points at Unibet.com.au which we think is about right.

Port Adelaide have a clean bill of health in comparison to other clubs, although Riley Bonner is under a cloud after suffering a hip injury against the Saints. Cam Sutcliffe, Scott Lycett and Trent McKenzie will all face fitness tests before being available for selection, while Daniel Motlop is still over a month away.

Melbourne have only five players on the injury list in total, with the only two that will come into senior consideration being Kade Kolodjashnij and Aaron vandenBerg. Recruit Adam Tomlinson and inconsistent forward Tom McDonald were emergencies for the Lions clash, and will be a chance for this game off a short break.

Demons v Power tips

Our AFL betting expert has canvassed the odds for some value and found several Demons v Power tips for Thursday’s game.

Robbie Gray to kick 2+ goals

Power star Robbie Gray has had a below par 2020, we’re guessing for a number of reasons including father time, a different role and less midfield minutes. Gray has been playing predominantly as a forward and only gathered seven touches against St Kilda, including one goal. We think the dry conditions at the Gabba-and some old fashioned pride will see a spike in his form and 2+ goals at $4 looks a good bet.

Either team by under 15 (tribet)

This Melbourne v Port Adelaide tip is one that we are confident in, with neither of these teams blowing opposition away of late. With both teams looking at finals campaigns we can’t see either giving an inch here, in what we’re expecting to be a cracking contest. Some AFL betting sites have got a market where you can bet on either team to win by under 15 points, with it paying around the $2.50 mark.

Melbourne Demons v Port Adelaide Power prediction 30/7/2020

We rate Port Adelaide and Melbourne at about a similar level in 2020 and suspect both might fall away towards the tail-end of the season. A big step in proving us wrong would be a convincing win in this contest. While we think the head-to-head betting odds are a little bit too short in the Power’s favour, and should be closer to even money, we do think they have the upper hand in this contest courtesy of an all-important extra day’s rest. Our final Melbourne v Port Adelaide prediction? Power by seven points.
