North Melbourne v Port Adelaide betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL rd 16 preview

Welcome to our North Melbourne v Port Adelaide betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their round 16 AFL clash at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

In a strange quirk of the 2020 fixture, the Roos v Power clash is the only game being played on Saturday, which means the spotlight will be squarely on the 17th-placed Roos and top-of-the-table Power.

As you would expect, the Power have been installed a $1.10 favourite in this clash, while the Roos have been priced as long as $7.30 with some bookmakers after an average run of form.

Both the Roos and Power had a bye in round 15. The Power last played on August 29 when they eclipsed Sydney by 26 points and the Roos were ruthlessly exposed by 63 points against the Gold Coast a day later.

North Melbourne could regain several players for the clash with Jack Ziebell listed as a test, while Aiden Bonar, Jack Mahony and Taylor Garner could play at some level this week. The inclusion of Jared Polec, who played for Collingwood’s reserves last round, or Jasper Pittard seems unlikely.

Port Adelaide has one of the shortest injury list’s in the AFL, with just three players on it, including youngster Mitch Georgiades, who is likely to miss with a slight hamstring complaint. Ruckman Peter Ladhams and Dylan Williams will be available after the Roos game as they return from a suspension and injury.

North Melbourne v Port Adelaide tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value Roos v Power tips for Saturday’s game.

North Melbourne to cover the +33.5 line

The Roos were absolutely horrible against the Gold Coast and must have made Rhyce Shaw question the direction he is taking his team. All AFL eyes will be on this game with it a standalone fixture and we think the importance won’t be lost on Roos players. The 33.5 line seems generous, especially if the Roos regain several players from injury. Watch selection closely because the Power could take this chance to rest a few sore players.

Mason Wood to kick 2+ goals

North Melbourne’s inconsistent Mason Wood is paying $7 to kick 2+ goals which offers some nice value, given he is a mature body in a young forward line and he was probably the Roos best forward against the Suns. Wood looks like he should be a superstar but fades out of games and could be trade bait at the end of the season, which means the Roos are likely to give him an extended run in the team.

Todd Marshall to kick 2+ goals

The Power’s big man is a good foil for Charlie Dixon, who is likely to cop the close attention of gun Roos defender Robbie Tarrant. This has us looking a little deeper in the Power’s goal-scoring betting and we really like Todd Marshall to kick 2+. He probably should have last game and he will get plenty of opportunities against a young backline here. Fellow tall, Justin Westhoff is paying $3.10 to kick 2+ and is coming off a game where he kicked 1.2 and missed another opportunity.

North Melbourne Roos v Port Adelaide Power prediction 5/9/2020

The Power are the no.1 team in the AFL so far in 2020 and while we don’t think they will finish there after the finals, they will win this game. It’s really just a mater of by how much. We just can’t see the Roos playing that poorly two games in a row, which is why we’re willing to take them +33.5. Their opposition just has too much talent for them at this point of the rebuild. Our final  North Melbourne v Port Adelaide prediction? Power by 19 points.
