Port Adelaide v Essendon betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL round 17 preview

Welcome to our Port Adelaide v Essendon betting tips, prediction and odds update for their AFL round 17 clash at Adelaide Oval on Saturday evening.

The ladder-leading Power can seal a top-four position with a win and would then just need to topple Collingwood in the final round to clinch their first minor premiership since 2004.

The Bombers are out of finals contention after slumping to successive losses, including a 66-point shellacking at the hands of Geelong on Sunday. They have also been rocked by the retirement of Irish star Conor McKenna who has returned home to Ireland.

The Power have won three successive games and were last-start 36-point winners over struggling North Melbourne on Saturday, meaning they have had an extra day’s break than their opponent.

Port Adelaide are paying $1.12 to win this clash and the Bombers are outsiders at $6.50. The $1.90 line has been set at a very generous 29.5 points.

Port Adelaide v Essendon tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Power v Bombers tips for Saturday’s game.

Essendon +29.5 points

Current form suggests the Bombers won’t win this game, but the 29.5-point line is tempting enough for us. Barring the Geelong disaster the Bombers have been competitive and with just two more games for John Worsfold at the helm, we can see them being competitive here. The Power have only just been doing enough and will be steeling themselves for a big final-round showing against Collingwood. Essendon +29.5 is paying $1.90 with Unibet Australia and other leading bookies.

Travis Boak to get 30+ possessions

Boak, who is among the fancies for the Brownlow Medal, has run into some seriously good form and enjoys playing against midfields that can be loose like Essendon’s. He gathered 34 touches against the Roos and we can see him doubling down here. He is paying $3.40 with Unibet to gather 30+ touches. Or check out their Star Player market, with similar odds for 20+ touches and a Boak goal.

Charlie Dixon to kick 3+ goals

Power star Charlie Dixon will be playing his 150th game in this clash and will be facing a Bombers team without Cale Hooker and Michael Hurley. The big forward will be his licking his lips at copping an inexperienced opponent and is paying $2.60 for 3+ goals at Unibet.

Port Adelaide Power v Essendon Bombers prediction 12/9/2020

Essendon will want to send out John Worsfold by showing the footy world that they are heading in the right direction. The reality is they probably should be playing finals in 2020, with several disappointing losses ruining the high points of the year. They have very few injuries in comparison to other teams, but the Power are professional, have few injuries themselves and tend to convert a bit better in front of the sticks. But the Bombers have Joe Daniher back and they look so much better with him in the team. Our final Port Adelaide v Essendon prediction? Power by 16 points.
