Sydney v Melbourne betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL rd 15 preview

Welcome to our Sydney Swans v Melbourne betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their round 15 AFL clash at Cazaly’s Stadium, Cairns, on Thursday.

The Swans are out of contention for the 2020 AFL finals, but this is a crucial match for Melbourne, who are in eighth place on the ladder but have the likes of GWS and Western Bulldogs ready to pounce if they slip up. Percentage might also be important come finals time.

The Swans have dominated against Melbourne for the past decade and more. In the past 16 meetings between the clubs, Sydney have won 13, with one draw and just two wins for Melbourne.

But things have changed in the 2020 season and the Swans are in full rebuild mode, plus have a hefty injury toll of star players.

The Swans did show a couple of rounds ago that they can step up when the put a major dent in the finals prospects of cross-town rivals GWS Giants with a shock win.

Melbourne have a fairly healthy list and have won four of their past five games, but they are not yet a side you are confident will always turn up to play their best football. They were possibly lucky to have beaten St Kilda in Alice Springs last week and have had a tough schedule but should have little trouble getting up for this one.

Sydney Swans v Melbourne tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Swans v Demons tips for Thursday’s game.

Swans +17.5 points/match total under 117.5 points

We just don’t have faith in Melbourne to do the right thing and win this one easily as the stats say they should. The Swans are going to make a base of Cairns for the next few weeks so should be comfortable there and also have shown plenty of fight in their matches in the latter part of the season. Swans coach John Longmire has had the better of whatever the Demons have thrown at him.

Sam Reid 2+ goals for Sydney

Both teams can struggle up forward at times and outside of Christian Petracca for the Dees, the injury prone Reid looms as the most dangerous forward on the ground. Check out the odds on game day and one of our recommended betting sites.

Sydney Swans v Melbourne Demons 3/9/2020

We are not expecting this game to reach any great heights but it is an intriguing glimpse into the future for the Swans, with so many young players making their way into their team. For Melbourne, if they can’t win this they may as well call time on their 2020 season. It won’t be easy but we think they will grind out the victory they need. Our final Sydney Swans-Melbourne prediction? Demons by 12 points.
