Western Bulldogs v West Coast betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL rd 16 preview

Welcome to our Western Bulldogs v West Coast betting tips, prediction and odds update for their AFL round 16 clash at Metricon Stadium on Sunday night.

In what is shaping as a cracking contest, the Bulldogs’ finals chances will go on the line after an inconsistent season. A loss and the Bulldogs are likely to be two games behind eighth place with just two games to play.

West Coast sit in fifth position but will force their way into the top four with a win in this clash and could be as high as second if results fall their way.

Western Bulldogs will have to defy recent history to win, having lost the last five games against the Eagles, with their latest victory being the famous 2016 elimination final before they went on to break their premiership drought.

The Eagles are the bookies’ elect, but have eased in the betting and are now paying $1.76 to win. Their opponent, the Bulldogs are paying $2.10. The $1.90 line has also shortened in from a high of nine points early in the week to 3.5.

The Bulldogs have lost intercept star Easton Wood and Laitham Vandermeer to injury and have dropped Tory Dickson, who may have played his last game for the Bulldogs. They have recalled Roarke Smith, Sam Lloyd and Zaine Cordy for the clash, while Aaron Naughton plays his 50th game.

The Eagles have recalled Josh Kennedy after the Coleman Medal contender missed a week with concussion, while Brayden Ainsworth and Jake Waterman have been included. They have opted to spell veteran Shannon Hurn and were unable to consider the injured Luke Shuey. Bailey Williams was dropped.

Western Bulldogs v West Coast tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Bulldogs v Eagles tips for Sunday’s game.

Over/Under betting – take the unders

Unibet has set the Over/Unders for this game at 115.5 which we think is generous given the stakes that are going on the line here and there are storms predicted for the Gold Coast on Sunday. We are expecting the Bulldogs to really crack in and make a contest of this game, but they need to be smart with the Eagles backline featuring two of the best intercept markers, Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass. The unders is paying $1.88.

Mitch Wallis to kick 2+ goals

The underrated Bulldog is one of the smartest forwards in the comp, and he would be stoked Shannon Hurn will be on the sidelines. He’s the type of player who will slip in between zones and will his way to a couple of goals. He is paying $2.10 with Playup to kick 2+.

Dom Sheed to get 25+ touches

West Coast are a hard team to pick possessions betting for, but it has become a little easier with several key midfielders on the sidelines. We’re never sure if it will be Sheed, Kelly, Shuey, Gaff or several others who will be the primary ball-winner in a star-studded team. With Shuey and Yeo sidelined, it puts more pressure on players like Kelly and Gaff to win plenty of ball. We think it’s likely to be classy mid Dom Sheed who is given more midifield minutes in this clash and we’re going to have a crack at him getting 25+ at $2.60.

Western Bulldogs v West Coast Eagles prediction 6/9/2020

The injuries are beginning to mount at West Coast, as the convoluted AFL season gets towards the pointy end. Their midfield will be missing Elliot Yeo and Luke Shuey for this clash, while Hurn’s absence will really hurt their superb backline. The Bulldogs are well rested for this clash and would have beaten Geelong last start if it wasn’t for several injuries leaving them undermanned after leading by a huge margin early.  While the Bulldogs have burnt us as punters this season we’re willing to give them a go as the outsider here with their season on the line. Our final Western Bulldogs v West Coast prediction? Bulldogs by 6 points.
