Crows v Dockers tips and prediction; AFL round 5 preview 2021

Welcome to our Adelaide v Fremantle tips, prediction and odds analysis for what is shaping as an intriguing contest at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Adelaide ($1.73) has been backed into warm favouritism, but Fremantle ($2.13) does have some claims in this match, particularly with Rory Sloane missing through injury.

The Crows have started with a 3-1 record and have an opportunity to further entrech themselves in the top six. Last start, the Crows were 41-point victors over struggling North Melbourne, which is not as impressive as it sounds given their opponent’s woes.

Fremantle recorded a 15-point win over Hawthorn with the end result flattering for the Hawks, with the home team missing many opportunities and kicking 13.18 for the match. This performance squared the dockers win-loss ledger at 2-2.

Adelaide’s list depth is going to be tested thoroughly in the next fortnight with Sloane joining the likes of Matt Crouch, Wayne Milera and Daniel Talia on the sidelines. Brodie Smith is regarded as some chance of playing with his knee injury suffered against North Melbourne, but Shane McAdam is unlikely.

Fremantle will receive an injection of talent at the selection table, but they will be without Hayden Young, who has suffered a serious hamstring injury. Rory Lobb, Lachie Schultz, Darcy Tucker and Brandon Walker are all in the picture to earn a call up.

Adelaide v Fremantle tips

WGL’s AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some Adelaide v Fremantle tips:

Nat Fyfe to kick 2+ goals

The Fremantle superstar is likely to spend long chunks of time forward, if his midfielders can win enough ball. Fyfe is exceptional in the air and a solid set shot at goal. Take him for 2+ goals with confidence.

Ben Keays to gather 25+ touches

Ben Keays keeps proving people wrong, after beginning his career at Brisbane. The hard-at-it midfielder would be one of the first Crows picked most weeks and he will need to play a blinder for his team to win this game, with Crouch and Sloane absent. While he lacks a little polish, Keays is a nature ball-winner.

Fremantle to win 1-39 margin betting

The Dockers just look stronger on paper but do have a horrible record of throwing away winnable games on the road. While the Dockers are unlikely to beat the Crows by a big margin, we think they are over the odds at $2.63 to win by 1-39, which is good enough for us.

Adelaide Crows v Fremantle Dockers prediction 18/4

Betting on Fremantle to win on the road is a huge call, but we think Sloane’s injury might really hurt the Crows. They are already missing midfield barometer Crouch and Sloane is their other major ball-winner, which could leave too much up to role players like Paul Seedsman and Ben Keays. Fremantle has the talent through the midfield with Nat Fyfe, Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra, while big forward Matt Taberner provides a presence and contest for the likes of Michael Walters to cash in. Our final Adelaide v Fremantle prediction? Dockers by 11 points.
