Carlton v Adelaide betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL round 17 preview

Welcome to our Carlton v Adelaide betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their AFL round 17 clash at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

Both of these teams are out of finals contention, but it shapes as an interesting battle with the previously winless Crows chasing their third successive win and the Blues attempting to continue their improved form.

Carlton are still mathematically an outside chance of making the finals, but would need results to fall their way, including several major upsets.

The Blues are coming off a five-point victory over Sydney on Tuesday, but ultimately fell short when they were a legitimate chance of mounting a finals charge in the weeks previous.

The Crows are coming off a 12-point victory over GWS, also on Tuesday, and have looked a different team since Rory Sloane and Brad Crouch returned from injury.

Just a few rounds ago AFL bookies were offering markets on the Crows going through the season winless, but now they are a serious chance of winning their third game. A victory would see them head into the final round needing to win to avoid the wooden spoon.

The Blues have been installed $1.37 favourites for this clash, with the Crows a $3.10 outsider. The $1.90 line has been set at 16.5.

Carlton defeated the Crows by 27 points the last time the teams clashed, which was in round 19 last season. The Crows won both their games in 2018 by a combined total of 159 points.

The Blues have lost Jack Martin to a calf injury, while Matthew Cottrell and Matthew Owies have been dropped. Eddie Betts, Lochie O’Brien and Michael Gibbons have been recalled.

Crows forward Taylor Walker is out injured, while Daniel Talia (managed), David Mackay (suspension) and Lachlan Murphy (omitted) have also gone out of the team. Billy Frampton, Bryce Gibbs, Jordon Butts and Tom Lynch have been recalled. Gibbs is playing his farewell match, against his former club.

Carlton v Adelaide tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Blues v Crows tips for Sunday’s game.

Adelaide +15.5 in line betting

We think the Crows are a serious chance of winning another game here, and you can take them with a 15.5 points start at PlayUp, which is paying $1.90 or $2 under a promotion offer for eligible customers. The Blues are coming off another bruising clash and could not consider classy forward Jack Martin. The Crows suddenly look a little more dangerous in attack than the Blues and we’re willing to give them a chance here.

Eddie Betts to kick 2+ goals

While it never soured to the point of divorce, it’s fair to say Eddie Betts’ finals days at Adelaide were not his finest in the AFL. The mercurial Betts has always had a sense of occasion and in what might be his final game against his former club (if he retires) he is offering some nice value to kick 2+ goals at $2.50.

Carlton Blues v Adelaide Crows prediction 13/9/2020

This clash has got horror fixture for punters written all over it. Carlton have been better this year and have dropped a number of close games. They are coming to the end of a bruising block and could be vulnerable against a lesser opponent. The Crows have not quite earned our trust despite their two wins on the trot. We think we might just let these two developing outfights slug it out, without our money on this occasion. Stick to the exotics. Our final Carlton v Adelaide prediction? Blues by four points.
