Fremantle v Geelong betting tips & prediction; AFL Rd 8 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Fremantle Dockers host Geelong in the first Monday night match to be played at Optus Stadium.

Bookmakers have installed the Cats hot favourites to win this match and on face value that would make sense, with the Cats sitting in sixth place on the AFL ladder at 4-3, while the Dockers languish in 15th with only two wins and seven losses.

But we think this will be a lot closer than the odds-makers anticipate, with the Dockers relishing being back on their home turf.

Of course, they spent more than a month in the south-east Queensland hub before returning to WA last week and suffering their 10th consecutive derby loss to the West Coast Eagles.

But Geelong have been weakened significantly for this clash, with superstar Gary Ablett (personal reason), Joel Selwood (hamstring), Jordan Clark (shoulder) and Luke Dahlhaus (foot) all unavailable.

Fremantle have lost veteran Stephen Hill to injury, while youngster Tobe Watson is a chance to debut after being named on an extended bench.

The Dockers produced one of the great statistical turnarounds when they beat the Cats by 34 points in their only meeting late in the 2019 season. At their previous meeting, in round 22, 2018, Geelong had obliterated the undermanned Dockers by 133 points in Geelong.

Below we have highlighted our Fremantle v Geelong betting tips, predictions and best bets, ahead of Monday’s clash at Optus Stadium.

Fremantle Dockers v Geelong Cats tips

Our AFL betting analyst has scoured the betting and found several value Dockers v Cats tips for Monday night’s game.

Dockers to win/match total over 112.5

This option at PlayUp is paying around $4.80. We are expecting this to be a free-flowing affair, with plenty of young and inexperienced players on both teams. We are hoping the Dockers can find the form that helped them to that gutsy win over St Kilda a couple of weeks back. We feel they are headed in the right direction under Justin Longmuir.

Matt Taberner to kick three-plus goals

The Dockers key forward has had fairly sticky hands this season so far and is showing signs into developing into a quality key position player. He can run a little hot and cold but we will back him to step up this week at his teams second match back on home turf.

Fremantle v Geelong prediction 27/7/20

We’re looking forward to this Monday night fare to see what the Cats look like without mainstays such as Selwood and Ablett. You can expect Patrick Dangerfield to have a cracking game but there is only so much even he can do. The home ground advantage is back for the Dockers and we think players like Taberner and Michael Walters will prove a real handful for the Cats. Our final Fremantle v Geelong prediction? Dockers by 14 points
