GWS notched up their first win last Saturday night when they upset perennial contenders Collingwood, with their stand-in skipper Toby Green booting five goals to be the difference between the two clubs.

Sydney suffered a severe injury blow against GWS, with gun utility Isaac Heeney breaking a bone in his hand, which will keep him out for at least a month. Co-captain Dane Rampe will also miss up to a month with a broken finger, on which he had surgery on Monday. Young midfielder James Rowbottom should be recalled after missing several weeks with a knee injury.

GWS have one of the longest injury lists in the competition, with A Graders such as Lachie Whitfield, Stephen Coniglio and Phil Davis still battling complaints. Whitfield is at least a fortnight away from returning, while Davis could be called up this week. Sam Reid is due back from suspension.

Sydney v GWS betting tips

The World Gambling List’s AFL betting expert has cast their eye over the odds and found some value Sydney Swans v GWS Giants tips:

Lance Franklin to kick 4+ goals

Sydney superstar Lance Franklin has been great in both of his matches this season, even though the Swans have been tentative with his return. Franklin looks to still have his pace on the lead and his game sense is still second to none. Franklin should be paying around the $3.20 mark (with Australian bookmakers) to kick 4+ goals. It might be worth watching selection for this bet, with Giants key defender Davis, who usually gets Franklin, a 50-50 proposition to play.

Callan Ward to get over 20 possessions

Ward was sensational against the Magpies despite sitting out some of the game with an elbow injury. The former Bulldog has been moved back into his preferred inside midfield role as his comeback from serious injuries continues. He looks much more comfortable at the coalface and looks set to play a prominent role against the Swans.

Swans v Giants prediction 17/4/2021

Sydney were close to losing their first game for the season against Essendon and they would not be entirely happy with their performance. At times the Swans midfield was outpointed by the young Bombers and if they are slightly off here, GWS could capitalise. While the Swans are undoubtedly the most improved team in 2021, the facts are they are exceptionally young and we would be shocked if they did not go through ruts. We just can’t find any enthusiasm for the $1.46 up for grabs for a Swans victory and instead we’re considering the tri-bet markets. Our final Sydney v GWS prediction? Swans by nine points.
