NRL Friday: Roosters v Rabbitohs best bets & odds, round 3, 2020

Roosters v Rabbitohs tips, predictions & odds update, NRL Round 3 2020

The next instalment between arch rivals Sydney Roosters and South Sydney is all about Latrell Mitchell, who plays against his old club for the first time.

Mitchell, of course, defected from the Roosters to their oldest foes in the off-season after being a key part of the Roosters’ premiership success playing at centre.

This marquee match-up has been delayed by the NRL shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, but even while not playing Mitchell managed to stay in the headlines, being fined for breaching coronavirus protocols.

The Bunnies are missing brilliant five-eighth Cody Walker for rounds three and four through suspension so need the 22-year-old budding superstar Mitchell to produce something special in his new role as fullback. Troy Dargan will make his NRL debut at five-eighth in place of Walker.

This rugby league match is being played at Western Sydney Stadium with no fans in attendance so Mitchell will be spared the Bronx cheers that come with defecting from one club to a despised rival.

The two-time defending premiers Roosters need to quickly get their season back on track after losing both matches before the shutdown. It’s a long way back from 0-3 but the Roosters are still strongly fancied to make a run at this year’s title.

Veteran centre Josh Morris will make his Roosters debut and rejoins brother Brett in the back line. Add in the return of the skipper Boyd Cordner and that really means plenty of defensive starch right across the field.

The NRL was due to return on Thursday night, with the Brisbane Broncos clashing with the Parramatta Eels, with this the first game back after the covid-19 shutdown.

Read on for our best bets and winner prediction for the Sydney Roosters-South Sydney clash at Parramatta on Friday, May 29.

Roosters v Rabbitohs free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free tips for the Roosters v Rabbitohs clash.

Roosters to win by more than 13 points

You can secure around $2.50 for this option with leading bookmaker Unibet. The Roosters will be tough to score against with the inclusions for this match and the Rabbitohs really do look light on for experience.

Match total over 39.5 points at $1.90

We expect a free-flowing contest with fine weather forecast and light winds. While Souths have an inexperienced team it’s an exciting one with loads of line-breakers and speed. The Roosters will be a lot more methodical in their approach but rarely have trouble crossing the opposition try-line. You can bet on the total score to be over 39.5 with Unibet, with this paying around the $1.90 mark.

Sydney Roosters v South Sydney Rabbitohs prediction

It’s the Roosters to win against the old enemy; they just appear to have too much grunt in the forward pack against a Souths team that has lost a couple of Burgess brothers and all-time great John Sutton from their engine room. The Roosters also have an extremely experienced back line which should should have too much power and guile for the younger Bunnies. We are tipping the Roosters to triumph in a high-scoring affair this time.
